Arisa's old school drama - Jajauma Narashi (1993)

Feb 13, 2010 14:00

Just watched a very "old-school" drama starring Mizuki Arisa ^_^   The title is "Jajauma Narashi" (Taming the Stubborn Tomboy Girl), a FujiTV getsuku(Mon 9PM) drama in Summer 1993, which has a fairly good average rating of 21.8% (highest rating being 23.9%). What's amazing is the music scores package is a collaboration of T-Square (Japanese jazz band) and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (British orchestra based in London)!!
I immediately downloaded the OST album =P    Amazing scores, indeed!

Arisa plays this young lady born in a SUPER-RICH family (pretty much just as rich as Domyoji of Hana Yori Dango) and she lives in a big castle only with her birth mother. So RPO scores really fit in giving this fairytale mood to the drama ^_^

Arisa's mother owns a big company. When Arisa was 12 years old, her mother sent her to go to school abroad. And then, her mother gets married again to an ordinary man, without telling Arisa about it. Right after the marriage, due to an accident, her mother passed away and Arisa is back to Japan. She is put in a situation where she has no choice but to live together with her stepfather in the castle. But then a man, the bad guy stole Arisa's mother's company, and so Arisa and her stepfather has to live in poverty since then.

Arisa was only 15 years old here, haha~   Soooo young~~!! Oh well... her onscreen debut was when she was 4 years old, anyway.

I just looooove highschool dramas in the early 1990s!!^v^   Before this, I also loved Inagaki Goro and Seto Asaka's Tokyo University Story, Nakai and Goro's Let's Go To School, Arisa's Houkago(Afterschool), Kimura's Sono Toki Haato wo Nusumareta (Stolen Heart). Beside the fact that I love watching these big stars in their early days playing the role of highschool boys and girls... there's something innocent with these early 90s highschool dramas... hehe...  Just love them!!

"Jajauma" does not only focus on Arisa's highschool life, but it is also about her and her stepfather's struggle in getting back Arisa's birth mother's company. So it's like a mix of...? Highschool drama and business drama (like Koi ni Ochitara?). Well, something like that....

As for the other highschool-ers, there are Uchida Yuki, Ishida Issei and Takeda Shinji. These four has a bimyou~ relationship. I think we can say they are both rivals and friends to each other. There are times they hate and bring down each other, there are times they need and help each other.

As for the love arrows...

Takeda Shinji ---> Arisa
Ishida Issei ---> Arisa
Uchida Yuki ---> Issei
Arisa ---> her stepfather ^_^;;;

Yes, I'm sorry to say, this is like another JINBEE (Matsu Takako's drama about a stepfather and stepdaughter love story, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi also starred Jinbee) XD    However, Jajauma is a comedy, so "chotto kimochi warui love story" aside, this is such a fun and hillarious drama!^^    Arisa hated her stepfather in the beginning anyway. Plus, Nakai Kiichi who plays the role as her stepfather, has a good comedy acting skill^^   I enjoyed his comedic acting!

But I ignored this step father-daughter love story anyway, I just enjoyed the highschool scenes Arisa has^^

Takeda Shinji plays this geek(but not exactly smart), weirdo and "kimochi warui" boy, LOL. I'm surprised he can act such a role, so so so different than any other roles he has ever played before. Now I know, why Shinji was casted as "Densha Otoko" the stageplay version. Shinji's character in this drama really reminds me of "Densha Otoko" alot, LOL. At first, he had a crush on Uchida Yuki, but after Arisa came and he saw her fighting bad guys in a tough way, Shinji went head over heels for Arisa immediately and gave her a love letter the next day^^
In the beginning, the others hate him... well, coz he's just so weird and "kimochi warui" y'know... lol. Saying things like, "I'll die for you" to Arisa and he follows Arisa everywhere like a creepy stalker XD  But slowly they started to see him as a friend esp. towards the end, Issei become close with him.
The sad part, Shinji has a heavy illness that he never tells anyone.(most probably that's why he has such a pale face in this drama) When Issei asked how can Shinji kept pursuing Arisa without shame like that. He said to Issei, "I don't have much time. I'll pursue her as long as I still can,". "Are you going to move out to another town or something?". "Well, you can say that,". Which in fact... he's actually dying T_T

Arisa and Yuki were kindergarten friends so they're so happy they get to meet again. They become the best of friends. However, sometimes Yuki sees Arisa as a rival, because Issei likes Arisa.

Issei's character is alot more kakkoii than Shinji in this drama, but I have to say, sometimes he's "kimochi warui" too. He is over-confident of himself and believes all girls will immediately falls for him. That's why, Arisa got him curious because Arisa shows no interest at all in him.
Issei's father is the man who stole Arisa's mother's company. And Issei's father told Issei to get close to Arisa to get some information. At one episode, Arisa accepted Issei's father's offer to become his adoptive daughter. And so she lived together with Issei too, in the castle as his adoptive younger sister, for a certain period of time.

Oh yes, Arisa and Yuki are first grade, Issei and Shinji are second grade. So the boys are the girls' senpai-s. One time when Arisa was in a good mood she greeted Shinji, "Good morning, senpai!!" and Shinji got all high just because of that^^

This is the castle where they live. Hmm... is this the "Trick Heart" castle? XD

Somehow, just somehow... this castle's interior reminds me of Domyoji's castle... but it doesn't look like one from the outside...

My favorite scene... Shinji gave Arisa a love letter, LOL! Such a funny scene!

Look how "Densha Otoko" he is, haha~

He immediately ranaway, lol!

It is written "Aishitemasu" (I love you) over and over again, lol!

Arisa is disgusted, "GE!!!" and immediately dropped the letter, haha!!! Tashikani, "kimochi warui", LOL.

In Ep5, Shinji came to Arisa's apartement introducing himself as Arisa's boyfriend to Arisa's stepfather. And Arisa smacked him down, haha! I love seeing tough Arisa!^^

Another favorite in Ep8, Shinji who always become the comical element of this drama, became serious this time.

Arisa: I'm sorry, I don't feel like talking to you now.

Shinji: Please... just let me talk. I know that someone as gorgeous as you will never like me. I know that very well. But you know how they say, we don't want to regret it when we die?

Arisa agrees to that (but she was just thinking about her feelings to her stepfather).

When Arisa left, Shinji coughed out blood... aww...T_T

Shinji died in Ep10, protecting Arisa's mother's land. Arisa cried a river for his death. I didn't see this dark plot coming, since this is a comedy. But I'm happy Shinji got enough focus thanks to this.

I like Arisa-Issei pairing. They have acted together 3 times. Houkago (Afterschool) in 1992, Jajauma and Boy Hunt in 1998 with Seto Asaka.

Arisa was also rumored dating Issei back then.

Issei and Shinji become close friends in real life, since this drama's filming. In 1994, after filming Wakamono no Subete, Shinji became close friends with Kimura Takuya, and he introduced Takuya to Issei. So Shinji-Takuya-Issei used to hangout alot even going to each other's apartements around 1994-1995. Takuya mentioned Shinji and Issei many times in What's Up Smap 1995. But after that, he never mentioned them anymore, maybe they grew apart, afterwards.

I love Arisa's tough character in this drama ^_^

Ahh.. there are still Oniyome Nikki 2 and OL Nippon in my Arisa must-watch list!! XD   I also want to watch her movie with Tanihara Shosuke "Baby Baby Baby", abt a single career woman who is pregnant and give birth to a baby. Can't find it anywhere =(

review, takeda shinji, mizuki arisa, drama
