6-SMAP and 5-SMAP

This is my general impression of them.

6SMAP: Chummy, Fun, Emotional
5SMAP: Kakkoii, Kowai(scary), Individual

It just happen to cross my mind the difference between 6SMAP and 5SMAP.

Actually KimuGoro hang out a lot in private in the 90s (from 93 to 96-97 I guess). In 94 Kimura took Goro with him when driving to Osaka and back (I think it was Osaka) so that Goro would keep him awake chatting. That year they also went to movie dates. And don't forget the story about KimuGoro and the driving liscence ( ... )

Thank you for your additional info on KimuGoro, I think i really lack knowledge on their stories and I didn't dig much. Can you tell me the license story?

So you think KimuGoro was even closer in 6smap era compared to 5smap era?

It was during a SmaSma ending talk (can't remember the year but it was November broadcast) a letter for Kimura from a certain member was read and he needed to guess from whom it was. And he guessed correctly that it was from Goro. It was Goro whom Kimura first took out for a drive after getting the driving liscence, they drank canned coffee in the car ("like adults") and then Goro went to Kimura's apartment ( ... )

Well... if the ice age happened around 98-99 then no doubt its because of Goro and Hiro-kun's encounter! XD lol j/k Wow I didn't know Johnny scolded Takuya for giving bad influence to Goro... maybe its true that Goro was Johnny and Mary's favorite kid XD

Yes, pls let me know about your speculations!

But I bet nothing really significant happened during their "apart period" sometimes any friendship needs a period when they leave each other alone. Even ShinTsuyo said they rarely spend time in private in the last couple of years, in last year's Shuffle Bistro. Oh wait... they did say the reason was because Tsuyoshi stopped drinking since 2009, so they never meet up and drink together anymore since then.

I just love reading your post about SMAP.

I remember when I entered fandom (around 2004-2005), people kept saying that SMAP have no bond as they are too individualistic and have more solo jobs than the group. At that time, fans of other JE groups kept emphasizing the bond, the member-ai. However, going through with years, I've realized that you can't feel the bond of the group only with what the members show it or interact with each other to the fans. It has to take years to feel that Kizuna.

I think SMAP have gone through so many hardships together. If their kizuna was not strong, they would have disbanded long time ago.

himaori, thank you for your never-ending support for all my entries <3

haha I don't blame them to think that SMAP looks very individualistic around 2004-2005, the situation was really that bad actually. I thought they had no motivation to do group works anymore XD but anyway it was around the time that J-Dream was established and speculation on SMAP re-negotiating their contract contents (salary? commission amount stuff?) so maybe the situation was kinda similar to now XD

I was always quite reluctant to check out 6nin SMAP stuff, because I wasn't interested in kiddy smap haha... I love the manly man smap. But I realized it was a big mistake. There's no way one can understand SMAP completely as a group without checking out the 6SMAP stuff. There's the whole history in there.

I have to agree with what you said about a group's kizuna.

Yanie san..first of all a big thank you for this beautiful write up..Most of the things you mentioned are almost correct speculations every smap fan thinks.
Yes,they are not what we see on tv.They are great entertainers...They can spontaneously crack jokes or discuss things...But that kind of a relationship only comes through so many years of bonding.Unless you know what kind of reply or expression the other person will do,..asking a question or cracking a joke can be very risky in real time tv.But among smap members that is not a problem.
From what i understand, for the survival as a band in such a competetive industry they have carefully created an idol like image. With so many years, they mastered in faking their characters or their kind of relationships on screen.

i wonder why my previous comment is marked as spam....

Anyway,.Goro even said..initially his admiration for Takuya was so much that he even tried to dress up like him and tried to copy him.He felt bad when takuya got scolded by Jhonny..takuya was said to be ruining Goro...but actually Goro did it himself.Goro said Takuya didnt make a big deal out of it and took it casually.Goro said he later realized that to become someones friend you dont need to do such things. You can just be yourself all the time.
