I realize I owe you all a post pertaining to life things, such as jobs (I has one 8D), summer housing (staying in Calabasas), thesis (I'm just about finished), and such other things. None of that is on my mind right now, however.

I just watched The Beast Below and I would like to ramble for a bit.

I wasn't kidding when I said 'ramble,' by the way. Also, spoilers. )

argh, doctor who, rant

You have some good points, but... maybe me and Heather are taking some of this better cause we've watched more classic who? Like. Really. Not all his regenerations were like the 10th. Or even the 9th. Like... oh god. 6? Especially when he first regenerated... He was a dick. Srsly. He softens up, especially into the continued stories on audio and such, but... man. Those first serials? Total asshole. lol And he is epicly full of himself.

And... idk. Amy is a good point. She has seemed to have 'peaked' quickly. It feels a bit like there should have been another episode in there. But IDK. Maybe they know something we don't? \O_o/

See how he reacts when she suggests he's "Unstable". 8D

I'm not expecting all his regenerations to be like Eccleston or Tennant. What I'd like in this new series is for some actual character development to happen. I feel like we're missing big chunks of time here - like there was supposed to be another episode or two in between here somewhere where we start to find out what kind of person Eleven is and when Amy starts to gain enough responsibility to go off and investigate things on her own and save the day and such other things. I don't care if Eleven is a total dick - I think that'd be hilarious, actually. I just want to see him actually develop into whatever he's going to be ( ... )

Eh, with the thought of the Meta-Crisis Doctor possibly taking up one of the Doctor's regenerations, that puts him at the 12-13 range of the Valeyard, who is, really, the Doctor gone off the deep-end. We've had a sampling of this from Ten, and even Eleven says "I won't be able to call myself the Doctor" which... brings us back to the idea of him without a companion is him becoming the Valeyard. Even if the Meta-Crisis doesn't count completely, he's still like... IDK... 11.5. He's really getting there.

Also, Amy has probably had a long time of pretending the Doctor as her imaginary friend and just has likely been imagining all sorts of possibilities of travel so... that's probably still stuck with her, even if she was told to forget, it's still apart of her.

I'm okay with plot holes since I'm use to jumping into stories with no background and just going with the flow XD

Really, as Jen mentioned, watching so many episodes of the classic series I think that probably helps, too. Eh. *shrug*

Honestly, I think that'd be a really interesting development. I just want development at all, really. I don't have a clue what Eleven is actually like, and if the writing continues the way it does I don't see that happening soon. ;;;

IDK, I'm just hoping the writing itself picks up.

I never assumed it was bad grades that got the kid in trouble...I thought it was more a behavioral thing, that he'd acted up in class or *done* something bad.

Yes, how can they build a country on a whale? Maybe it was just a propulsion thing...not having enough fuel, etc. Maybe once they got the whale down, they built the city on top of it and made it go, and added more stuff later? I assume the non-eaten kids get to vote at 16, and they become full adults at that point. As far as I'm concerned, the Smilies are just creepy Big Brother authority figures that tell you through facial expressions when you're stepping out of line, and follow it up with consequences.

I...agree with you about the Doctor just really missing the point. Maybe it was "that time of the regeneration"? I got nothin'.

I figured it was grades - the behavioral thing never crossed my mind and wasn't explained, so. \O_o/ Behavioral does make more sense, though.

Honestly, I would have loved for the episode to explain all that. Was it a propulsion thing? Would the fact that the sixteen-year-olds already know and have been working with the whale make a difference? How can you have a half-Smilie? I have no idea and the holes just frustrate me.

That, honestly, was the worst part for me. When the main character has to miss an obvious clue - which has been pointed out to him several times, by the way - for an episode to work, you've got major writing issues.
