Is it so painful to do a little research?

lol, while I totally agree it is a scientific disaster (the scientificness is the disaster, not that it is a disaster as a whole), it is still a movie, not a documentary. My friends bashed that part into me too, lol. "It is a darned movie! Enjoy it! Stop looking at everything in a technical way!" XD

See, I can live with that, until I read quotes from NASA scientists showing just what the advertising is doing to people.

"I've even had cases of teenagers writing to me saying they are contemplating suicide because they don't want to see the world end. I think when you lie on the internet and scare children in order to make a buck, that is ethically wrong," he said. (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/relax-the-end-isnt-nigh-1804340.html)

I can live with bad science. But this movie is utterly silly, while at the same time doing exactly what I was afraid it would: scaring the public into thinking it's real.

People treat it as though it were a real event because it emphasises instant gratification; the quick and easy flash-in-the-pan miracle/catastrophe. It's all about making money off of selfish fear, and most frustrating to me is that after thousands of years of false alarms it still works.

They never go for a downer, but yeah. Don't even destroy the Earth. The 'spaceships' in the trailer? Boats. Giant, specialized, sophisticated BOATS.
