Chapter 4
“The cab should be here any minute now.” Yamapi reassured Myrah. She only nodded. “Uh… maybe we should exchange cell phone numbers? I don’t know how much Jin has planned, so I want to be sure I can call you to let you know what’s going on.”
Myrah nodded and pulled out her phone. As she punched in his number, she realized she was actually getting Yamapi’s number! She still couldn’t believe all that happened to her! The cab then pulled up and Yamapi held the door open for Myrah. She slid in and then he followed. She busied herself telling the cab driver where she lived. She was suddenly super nervous being in the car with her idol. Finally, she had to face him.
“So, shouldn’t we get some, uh, facts straight? I already pretty much know everything about you, so you just need to learn some stuff about me.” Yamapi raised his eyebrows, but then agreed. “Ok, my name is Myrah Langston. Uh, I’m 20 years old and I have never had a boyfriend.” What the? Why was she saying that? She felt the color rising to her cheeks as Yamapi gave her a funny look. “Sorry,” she mumbled.
He chuckled. “It’s alright. I understand you’re just nervous. But I hope you can keep your mind under control tonight. It will be a little difficult to explain to Jin why my girlfriend is so jumpy.” She only blushed more. “I need to know about your food likes and dislikes.”
“Uh… I don’t like sea food. I can’t think of anything really, though, off the top of my head. Oh, also, I’m broke.”
“That’s fine, isn’t it customary for the boyfriend to pay for the dates?”
“It depends on the person. If you don’t mind then yes, it is customary.”
“Ok, well I call you when I find out where we are eating so you can let me know if it’s alright or not.”
“Sounds good.” Then they fell into an awkward silence.
Finally, Yamapi broke the silence. “If you’ve never had a boyfriend before… that means… uh, that you haven’t… well… umm… kissed anyone before?” Now, both of them were blushing.
Myrah cast her eyes down. “No, I haven’t.” She admitted, ashamed.
“That’s alright. There’s nothing wrong with that. I was just thinking… since you haven’t before, uh… just in case we have to for Jin’s sake… maybe… uh… you want to practice?” He didn’t think she could possibly get any redder, but she just did. But he felt the color rise in his cheeks as well.
“I… what if I’m not any good?”
He laughed. Her lack of confidence putting him at ease. “That’s the point of a practice, isn’t it?” He winked.
“Uh, right. Practice.”
He could see the naked fear in her eyes as he leaned forward. Finally, their lips met. She was tense, very tense. But he was sure he could fix that. He opened his mouth and let his tongue slide out, licking her lips trying to find a spot where he could enter her mouth. He felt her begin to relax and she sighed, slightly opening her mouth. Perfect. He quickly darted his tongue into her mouth before she could close it. He began using his tongue to probe the inside of her mouth. He couldn’t quite place what she tasted like, but she was very sweet.
Myrah felt as if she was drowning. She couldn’t function. She just knew she was incredibly happy. She was surprised when her tongue began to tease his. It was almost as if it had a mind of its own. Not that she minded, he tasted hot. Like spices. She found her hands grabbing his hands and placing them on her hips. But she didn’t have time to think of what she was doing. All she could really think of was the kiss and how much she was enjoying it until…
He quickly pulled back as she began coughing. “Are you ok?!”
She began to practically gulp in air. Finally, she answered him. “Yes, sorry. I think I forgot to breathe.”
He laughed and playfully patted her head. “Yes, breathing is important. You better learn to breathe when we kiss or Jin will know something is up.”
Her heart soared. “Does that mean we need to practice more?”
“I thought you were embarrassed and nervous.” He teased. For some reason, that kiss had broken the barrier between them.
“Yes, but that was past tense.” Both grinned.
“Alright then. If you want.”
She didn’t even bother answering and just grabbed his face and began to kiss him, this time more fiercely than the last. She almost choked as he filled her mouth with his tongue, but then tried to concentrate on breathing through her nose. A sudden ringing made them both jump.
Yamapi grabbed his phone and sighed as he read the screen. “I’m sorry I have to take this. Hello?”
“What the hell, Pi, why haven’t you been answering?!”
“Sorry, I left my phone in my bag accidentally.”
“Whatever, did you catch the cab?”
“Yeah we- I am in it right now.” He prayed Jin didn’t notice his slip. He didn’t seem to.
“Good. How soon will you be here?”
Myrah zoned out since Yamapi was on the phone. She hoped now that Edwin would NOT ask about the details of the ride. She was still amazed and a little shaken up. She just made out with the man she dreamt of making out with for years. She looked at him now, wondering if she would wake up soon. She hoped she would never wake up, if this was a dream. She noticed he seemed pretty agitated and wondered who he was talking to.
She looked out the window and noticed they were about to be at her house. That was quick. She was disappointed when they turned onto her street, but was comforted by the fact that she would be seeing him tonight. The driver stopped in front of her house and she thanked him. Yamapi quickly got off the phone, reassuring the caller that he would call back in a few minutes.
“Oh, that’s not necessary! My house is right there. You didn’t need to get off the phone.”
“It’s fine, I was getting tired of Jin anyway. He was getting all worked up because I hadn’t been answering his calls or texts earlier. He’ll get over it though. Can I help you with anything?”
“No, all I have is my purse and this little bit of food. I didn’t fly in from anywhere like you.”
“Are you sure?” She nodded. “Ok, then, I’ll call you in a bit. Do you mind if I walk you to your door?”
“No, don’t. I haven’t got a chance to scream yet.” She laughed at his puzzled face. “Never mind.”
“Ok… bye.”
“Good bye.” And she walked up to her house. She dug out her keys and let herself in. Once inside she screamed her head off and began jumping up and down like a little girl at Disneyland. She then collapsed on the couch to call Edwin…
-----
A few hours later, Myrah was putting the finishing touches on her outfit. She was wearing a deep blue flowing knee-length dress that set off her porcelain colored skin. The top had cap sleeves and a scoop neck. She chose a simple pair of silver sandals and swept her long, light brown hair up into a french twist. Her ears were decorated with diamond studs. All she had left was the matching silver necklace with a diamond journey pendant.
~beep beep~
Her alarm! She better get going She grabbed her silver clutch, checked herself in the mirror once more, and ran outside. She settled into her car, started it up, and began to drive to the restaurant. Once on the road, she tried to calm her nerves. She had about a fifteen minute drive or so. She wondered how tonight would turn out. She hoped she wouldn’t say something stupid like she had been doing all day. It made her feel better, though, that Edwin had finally come around. It would just make her that much more nervous if he didn’t.
She thought of the kiss they shared and began to get nervous all over again. Calm down! she chastised herself Just breathe deeply. In and out. In and out. She coached herself and could feel the nervousness subsiding.
As soon as she pulled into the parking lot, she could feel her nerves get jumpy again. She even almost locked her keys in the car!
She felt so much better when she saw Yamapi standing outside of the restaurant waiting. He looked so handsome in his black suit with a white shirt and a dark blue tie. Dark blue tie?! She smiled to herself realizing they were matching. For some reason, that put her even more at ease.
She walked up to him and he gave her a million dollar smile. She all but melted.
“Wow, you look beautiful.” She blushed and he laughed at her. “All you ever seem to do is blush!” He was awarded with an even deeper blush.
“You don’t look too bad yourself. Then again, I doubt you ever look bad.” He laughed again.
“Of course I do! Everybody has their moments!”
“Whatever.” He then held out his arm and she linked hers in his, her heart racing.
“Jin isn’t expecting you, exactly.” He explained as they were walking. “He said he has a surprise for me and I just told him I also had one. I’m pretty sure his surprise is exactly what I was trying to avoid by bringing you.”
“You mean, a girl?” He nodded.
“Don’t be nervous. You’ll be fine, I just know it.” She didn’t believe him, but nodded her head anyway. Her eyes scanned the large dining room until her eyes landed on the one and only Jin Akanishi. She had to admit he looked very handsome in his charcoal gray suit with a white shirt and red tie. His eyes met hers and opened wide with… panic? Strange, why should he be scared?
Yamapi noticed her falter as he noticed Jin’s panicked eyes meet hers. He didn’t understand. “Everything will be ok.” He reassured her, not even sure of the words that he was saying. He just wanted her to remain calm as they fixed… whatever it was that needed fixing.
“Jin, this is my girlfriend, Myrah. Myrah, this is Jin.” She seemed calm as she smiled and nodded her head in greeting. Jin stood and held out his hand to her.
“Nice to meet you. Uh… Pi, can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure. Myrah, just go ahead and sit while you wait. No use in making the pretty lady stand for no reason.” She sat in the chair he pulled out for her.
“Thank you.”
Jin and Yamapi walked off a little ways.
“Girlfriend?! I wish you would have told me sooner! This puts me in a very awkward position.”
Yamapi pretended he didn’t have a clue what Jin was talking about. “It does? I don’t understand. Aren’t you bringing a girl?”
“Yes, but I asked her to bring a girl for you as well.”
“Oh, I see. That’s not good.”
“Didn’t you notice there were only four chairs?”
“I thought you figured out my surprise already and was prepared.”
“No! Now what am I supposed to do?! I can’t call and cancel on them now!”
“Just let the waiter know there was a mistake and there is one extra person. Be sure to apologize and see if there is any way they could change our table or just add an extra chair to ours. If you have to, give him an extra tip. I’ll cover that, since I ruined it.”
Yamapi, always the calm, level-headed one in any problem thought Jin, what would I ever do without him? He went off to find the waiter and do exactly as Yamapi said.
Yamapi walked back to Myrah at the table. She immediately bombarded him with questions. “What happened? What’s wrong? Why did he-“
“Don’t worry. I told you he was going to have a girl for me. He was worried about the seating. But everything is under control. You worry too much. You don’t have to worry about a thing with me here. I won’t let anything happen, I promise.” He grabbed her hand reassuringly, and she felt incredibly safe.
