The bell would ring any second now. Any second and yet another lesson would be concluded. Was there really any meaning to school besides stuffing their brains with useless information? It wasn’t like he needed any of the information for his future career. He was part of Johnny’s Jimusho, and he was confident that he’d last a good while in Johnny’s before retiring.
The bell rang, indicating the lunch hour was starting.
“Well who knows what you’ll do after that?” a voice said, smoothly interjecting into his thoughts.
“How did you know what I was thinking?” Yuto asked.
Ryosuke replied, “Your eyes were starting to glaze over and your facial expression indicated that you were pondering about the future. Again.”
“You can’t blame me. The counselors are already asking about what we plan to do in the future. I really haven’t a clue what I’d do other than singing, dancing, and acting as a Johnny.”
“But you could just go into acting like some of our sempai.”
“…I don’t know if I’ll want to continue doing that stuff though.” Yuto said, sitting down and opening his bento.
Ryosuke stole a piece of egg from Yuto’s bento. “Yuto, we haven’t even debuted yet. Hell, we’re only thirteen years old! We’re still juniors and we still have a long way ahead of us. Let’s just focus on perfecting our skills and worry about our futures after Johnny’s ten years from now.”
He was slurping up his ramen when he felt his pocket vibrate violently, so Ryosuke quickly pulled out his cell phone. Glancing at the picture on the screen, he sighed and picked up.
“What’s up?”
“Where are you right now?”
“…Why?”
“Come on! Just tell me Ryosuke!”
Wanting to finish his bowl of ramen, Ryosuke groaned. “Yuto, I’m eating. Can’t this wait?”
“Aha! I know where you are!”
“…”
“I see you…” Yuto said while giggling.
“…Your giggling sounds pretty obnoxious through the phone.”
Suddenly, he felt Yuto’s weight crush his shoulders, his head dipping forward and barely touching the soup in his bowl.
“GET OFF!!!”
Yuto was laughing hysterically as Ryosuke turned around with a piercing glare. Ryosuke’s hair had taken a nice dip into the soup along with Ryosuke’s left cheek.
“Gomen! Gomen!” Yuto managed to say between laughs.
Ryosuke punched him lightly. “Shut up!” he said in a hushed voice, “Everyone’s staring…”
They quickly left the restaurant after Ryosuke rinsed out the soup from his hair. Yuto was barely suppressing his laughing the entire time.
“So why did you come to find me? Do you miss me that much?” Ryosuke teased.
“What! It’s only been…an hour or so. I just wanted to hang out since we’ve been so busy recently.”
“I was enjoying my free time, you know…”
“…you don’t like me?” Yuto asked, pouting. He started to turn away from Ryosuke.
Ryosuke was going to pull his hair out. “Of course I like you!” he answered, turning Yuto around to face him.
Yuto beamed a big smile at Ryosuke. He couldn’t help but laugh. Ryosuke continued, “I just can’t believe we’re together almost 24/7! I need some time away from you, you know…”
“Am I that overbearing?”
“No, just overwhelming…you still talk a lot and just ramble on and on and on and on and-”
“-I get the point. Jeez. No need to mean about it.”
They ended up going to the park to sit and talk. Yuto sat on a swing next to Ryosuke and they swung lightly. After moments of silent swinging, Ryosuke spoke.
“Do you remember?”
“Aaa…”
They continued to swing slowly, just enjoying the simple happiness from being together doing something from their school days. Yuto kicked off from the ground, moving higher into the air.
“I guess even after ten years, we’re still stuck in Johnny’s Jimusho…still singing.” Yuto said softly, smiling gently.
“…still dancing too! Except we’re sexier now!” Ryosuke added with a laugh, trying to beat Yuto’s height off the ground.
“I wonder where we’ll be in another ten years…”
They played in the park like little kids for the rest of the afternoon and promised that in another ten years, they would meet each other there again.
