I tried to use Pandora today on your recommendation (I've used it before, but had forgotten about it), but when I hit play, I didn't ever hear anything. I don't know what the trouble is, because despite the fact that they use Flash, their UI is impoverished. It gives insufficient feedback for diagnosing problems.
So, I'll try it again from work on Monday. Unless I've forgotten again by that time.
I know last.fm has been around for a long time, but I never knew what it was or why I would want to use it, so I never did.
Firefox is known to be weird with regard to sound. I've heard of people saying that flash in Firefox tries to use OSS. Depending on the other applications you can get no sound in Firefox or no sound in your other applications.
If you use the Alsa OSS wrapper it should clear it up for you.
