I long suspected Marcus would meet his demise but never imagined it would pain me this greatly when it happened - a testament to your surperb writing and character creation, no doubt. This has turned into a trifecta of angst - dearly departed Marcus, devastated John and distraught Sherlock. I am trying my best not to cast any hope on how you plan to conclude this story. Whatever path you choose, I know it will be well written and quite moving.
