Father Lawrence reminds me of an extremely dear friend of my parents, Wally, who was in the same situation. He ( and his wife) made a different choice. But what a cherished reminder and a lovely echo of one of the warmest and best people I know. ( and for that reason, Fthr. L has a Scottish accent in my head)

I really appreciate the nuanced way you're treading around religion and vows and such in this piece. My heart is all JOHN JUST LOVE SHERLOCK FOREVER AND EVER but then, reality is never quite so simple, and you show that well! Also, Father Lawrence sounds like a wonderful person.
