5 characters or couples you wish could have gotten a happy/happier ending.1) Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, most X-Men canons -- given the fluidity of comic book canon/alternate timelines/etc., it seems just possible those crazy kids might work it out eventually, at least in some dimension or another, but by then they will have done their time ( Read more... )

Totally agree with #2 and #5. #5 even more than #2 if you can believe that.

Sadly, I can believe it very well. Alas.

So much angst, so much hotness, so many contract negotiations with Lena Olin getting in the way.

*snorts*

Another Jo/Laurie shipper! Hurray!

But Laurie/Amy? COME ON FOR SERIOUS.

UGH CHILDHOOD TRAUMA AHOY. It made Laurie seem so creepy, too- like, well, one refused me, one's married, and one's dead... oh hai Amy! WHAT EVEN, LMA?

When I was home for Christmas, my sister asked "Well, what episode of Alias are we watching?" because apparently it's a Christmas tradition that we watch Alias? I have no memory of this being a tradition but I embraced it whole-heartedly and we watched the Bristows swan around India and LO IT WAS WONDERFUL.

The SpyFam is the least likely Christmas tradition ever, and therefore the best.

ITA that marrying Amy gives Laurie's motivations a wholly unnecessary glossy of creepy.

Jo/Laurie, man. That's the one thing that will always pain me, because they were great, and Amy is the worst. I kept hoping they'd have an immoral affair in the later books but, alas, they did not.

I don't have a hate-on for Amy -- she's not my favorite, but still, it seems like the canon goes out of its way to punish her. She marries Laurie (who never did love her best) and is then given a sickly child so she can live her life in unending emotional sorrow and fear. Fred Vaughn might have been worth further consideration.

I agree with the entire list-- as you know Jack/Irina is long the OTP of my heart, and thank fortune people write Jo/Laurie for Yuletide with some regularity.

That said, I must comment about Beverly and Jean-Luc. I think the worst thing for me is that most TNG fic is just not good, so it's hard to find sources that fix the problems that, as you put it, gave me the fannish equivalent of blue balls for so very long. (I had shipped them as a tiny person watching TNG with my Dad, and then again as a teenager rediscovering the show). They really could have been grown-ups together, and it would have been a thing of beauty to behold (and I'm not just talking about shirtless Patrick Stewart).

I, too, have found little Picard/Crusher fic that engages me -- less because of the quality of the writers, but more because those I have found respect canon more than I do. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for working within the frame, but when canon has screwed you over, I want to feel a little freer, you know?
