I was about to ask where you found an open floor plan in NOLA, I've never seen one. ;) Everything is a raised cottage.

A surprising number of old houses have been renovated to have one, which IMHO works against the whole aesthetic. I mean, I see how you could do it well -- if my kitchen were open to my living room, it could work -- but I have seen evidence of how NOT to do it well this past week.
