Sunday, my mother is up early, getting ready for the later visit of the grandchild. She glances out on the lawn and sees a few, not-quite-hidden, brightly colored eggs. She asks my father if he put them out there; he says no

Very fascinating installment. I was completely riveted by the whole memory segregating process. It was very interesting to hear Sydney's thoughts and get the reactions of the others in the room. Guide! Will was perfect. Awww, I totally miss the character now. Your Dr. Brazell is spot on, too; I could see and hear him in my mind. And oooh, Simon! Can't wait for the showdown.
"Did you bring it back on your last visit?" Jack asked dryly. Kaya nodded
Favorite chapter thus far!!! The memories were done to perfection - from Syd slowly gaining confidence, to Jack's near screw-up with his part as "Julia's father", to Will as the guide, to the bit (dare I hope) of J/I reconnection via Syd's memories. Damn Simon and his bad timing. Can't wait to read the conclusion.
Now I finally had the chance to read all parts you posted of this story so far, and it's great. I was always intrigued by Sydney's Julia Thorne phase, and the brainwashing tactics used in your AU sound all too horribly plausible (in the Alias world and out of it). Great characterisation of everyone, and of course I love Will having such an important part in the story.
Thanks so much! I'm glad my theory on Julia read well to you -- I think it would explain an awful lot of what happened in "Full Disclosure" and in the early part of S3. (I also theorized that it might be why she sent that key to Sloane -- the Covenant, knowing that Sydney distrusted Sloane, would not have bothered weaving him into the nightmare visions; this, ironically, would have left him as one of the few stable elements in her mind.)
Does that mean Sloane will show up in the story? (Have to ask, incorrigible fangirl that I am.)
And yes, that makes sense, especially since McKenas Cole is a key player of the Covenant. Given his own feelings re: Sloane, he'd figure that there was no way Sydney would ever get over her loathing, so there were was no need to condition her additionally against him.
It also ties with what we see of the Julia-Simon relationship; I did get the sense that she didn't have sex with him so much to maintain her cover as in a combination of self-loathing and drugging herself against it, though I didn't mean it literary.
Another thing: is Elena behind the Covenant in your version as well?
Sloane doesn't show up; I had to keep this pretty tight, in order to get this written by superswank's birthday, before the hiatus ended and without cutting into the original stuff I'm working on too much. But in the lengthy sequel in my head, he's definitely a player. :)
I intended for everything to fit with canon except Will's decision to join the CIA instead of joining witness protection; every change in the storyline springs from that. Elena's behind it, Sydney knows it, and she even has heard hints about "The Passenger." She knows that Sloane's not a part of the Covenant, and that in fact he's considered to be racing them to this goal -- which she'd naturally be curious about. Oh, now I am wandering on too much about that which will not be written.

Great update. The granola analogy was brilliant.

Glad you like the story! I think that the munchies are probably the controlling force in Brazell's life, so food analogies are natural.
