Why is it that I can fold a piece of paper into all manner of intricate creature, but cannot fold paper around a box without making a complete bollocks of it?

That makes no sese at all. Perhaps you could create and origami "box" that you slid the actual box into and sealed?

Well since origami is wrapping paper around shapes and into it, perhaps there's some form that contains a box-sized space?

Or perhaps consider the box a special class of that handy table meant for helping fold origami...
(well such ARE sometimes helpful)

or maybe just a special class of paper mache :)

Well, I can wrap a box beautifully, and fail dismally at every bit of origami I attempt, so I'd theorize that they're two completely different skills.
