My Chinese history notes are covered in katakana. What is this I don't even

Okay, so I guess you know a lecture's going to be interesting when my immediate reaction to the 'main points' overhead projected on the front wall is "OOH! OOH! I totally kinda already know this stuff from an Ishida Akira anime! =D" And it was interesting, but in an "interesting subject" kind of way, not the usual "oh god she said interesting

Uhhh, let's see... everything in my notebook has little phonetic guides according to how the prof pronounces everything, urgh... Okay, why is 'zi' like in 'Han Fei Zi' pronounced like 'zuh'? And Cheng like King Cheng is 'chong'? And Sui is like 'soi'? And I'm paranoid that some of this might be him mispronouncing stuff 'cause he's going to quickly and not bothering to correct himself, or me mishearing because he doesn't talk loud enough...

Luckily I located this handy page (I never think to Google until after I ask everybody, ack) which should have me covered for the basics. *studies diligently*
