Recently, I've been looking around for a new digital camera. I think I'm ready to retire my Nikon 2200 and move on with better cameras. The Nikon 2200 was my first digital camera. At the time, I had no intentions buying a super-star camera until I knew exactly what I wanted in a camera ( Read more... )

I love my Canon Powershot SD550. The colours turn out very vibrant and it shows a lot of great detail when I put it on the macro setting for closeups.

I did a bunch of research before getting this camera and a lot of people agreed the Canon was the best one out of a lot of cameras!

Are the pix from the Auto Show taken with your Canon SD550?

yup they were taken with the camera but I wouldn't say they are the greatest pics. I've taken much better pics with the camera. I think you just have to fiddle around with it to get great shots in different settings.

The autoshow pics were taken with just the auto setting. There was just too much light and other flashes going off that I think kinda made the pics not so great.

I concur with phunkiediva. I got my SD550 after about 2 months of research and asking around and I love my camera. It's a great point and shoot, but there are a lot of settings you can play with in the manual modes.

I actually got it pretty cheap (at the time) for $500 +taxes.

www.downtowncamera.com has it for $509 right now. I'm think they are an authorized Canon retailer, but I know Henry's will match that price (that's what I did) and Henry's is an authorized retailer for sure.

I plan on getting it from the same ebay seller I got my Nikon 2200 from. They offer bundle packages, which I love. Saves me the work from having to buy all those things individually.

My Nikon 2200 took great pictures. For a 2.0 MP, I thought it surpassed many of the other 2.0 MP I've seen and used. This Nikon P3 has an SLR feature that reduces vibration in 2 different modes. It also includes a feature called D-Lighting that adds light to dark areas when taking pictures. I've read most of the reviews and so far, it's been getting nothing but positive feedback.

As for the Canon, I'm just a bit concerned about taking pix in low lighting and vibration. But I do like that fact it automatically turns vertical pix whening viewing them on the camera

The low lighting and vibration is easily compensated for with the manual ISO settings and flash. But you do need to remember to set it.

I find that generally, I havn't had too many shots that were blurred unless I was super shaky.

Get the SD550! My bf got it a while back and it works wonders (so much better than my shitty Sony DSC-T1). I use it more than he does now and its absolutely fabulous :D!!

How is the camera when taking pix in low lighting areas and while you're moving (ie. shaky hands).

I'm also concerned about the flash. Some of the reviews I read for the Canon was that it "washes out" the image's colours.

Well the only problem that I really had in low light is that the flash wasnt bright enough or it didnt disperse enough sometimes. And in terms of shaky hands, that really only becomes a problem when you have really really shaky hands (something reminiscent of parkinsons or something :P), and when the flash is off. But I think thats a problem with any digital point and shoot cameras.
I still think its one of the best cams that ive used, and Ive gone through Sony and Nikon's in the past.
Happy shopping darling :D

OH also, back to the shaky hands. Minor shakiness isnt a problem at all when the flash is on. Its just when its off when it gets a little tricky. Just in case it didnt seem like i answered your question lol

yup, the canon :) but if you are still a skeptic, buy BOTH since most stores have an awesome return policy and take the same pics with both cameras! you can then decide for yourself!

I hate returning things! I end up keeping my purchases I don't like becasue I either, forget or am too lazy =P Unless I really, really hate the purchase, then I make an effort to return it.
