For a couple of years, I ran a Torchwood RPG. As is common, it began to flag in the second year, we lost several core players and I think the last adventure was not a wise choice. I let it die, though I miss running and playing in games like that ( Read more... )

I did a bit of Dungeons And Dragons-esque roleplaying during the term, and I thought that the Torchwood and UNIT universe would make a really good basis for a roleplaying game along those lines. Adding UNIT just gives more options for places and stuff, but even just using Torchwood, if you can form your own team then there are huge possibilities.

Yup. Really, the larger whoinverse is great for role-playing. So many minor characters to re-use, so many world settings.

There is an official Doctor Who RPG by Cubicle 7 (book and dice type that is) that came out this year. I don't know how well known it is but it won best new rpg at the UK Games Expo this year. I only know about it because a couple of the people my husband does a gaming podcast with did a review of it and were at the expo.
I've not played it yet, but I've heard good things about it.

I really wish you hadn't told me that...
Because I've been trying to find a game to introduce to the sci fi society at uni when I get back, and then persuading myself that I have neither time nor money.
And now... that's not looking like a valid excuse in the face of Whoniverse roleplaying.

Thanks for the information :D

Sounds interesting. Makes me wish I had the time to RP again.
