My response is far from clinical, LOL. I don't understand why our state can't get it's act together. I recall having a work stoppage several years ago, because the state bascially had no money. (I'm a teacher for Chicago Public Schools) This is just utterly ridiculous. There have recently been school closings, and teacher positions eliminated, mainly due to the financial mess of the state. At my school alone, seven teacher positions have been cut before the start of the new school year. How is this beneficial for children

But I think you've got it right--the politicians who decide these things are very, completely in the dark about education, social work, and personal violence (and just about everything else sadly).
Yes, especially now with the economic downturn. This is exactly the kind of climate when crime rates go up, domestic violence, etc. It's all connected, and people need services. But you know, it's easier for politicicans who are so far removed from the daily struggles of people to make decisions based on what they think they know, when they really know nothing. Yeah, it irritates.. gah.
I hate this fucking crisis and I hate the banks for getting us here, and I hate that we can't just let them fail and fucking suck it up like they should because they took the risks and their businesses failed, because if they fall, so does everyone else, and the collateral damage goes everywhere.
Um, just realised I'm working on the assumption that your funding was cut because of the crisis. Is that true? Or is it state policy of some description?
I still fucking hate it.
And I can't believe we're finally getting progressive governments around the world and this shit still happens.
WOW your DV agency is bigger than the one that I volunteer for. We have three paid employees and a once a week paid cleaning lady. The rest are volunteers. And even then as far as I know, we only have a few volunteers -- well volunteers that work with the clients. There are times when we have interns from the area colleages, though. But still to be able to work with the clients *and* get paid? That must be a blessing.
