Oh geez... that sounds almost like what happened to my dog, but other than a flee collar, he was never on any medications. I hope all owners of the dogs and cats on this take care of it before it's too late.
i left a message for your friend as well but just as an fyi.....over the counter pet meds (flea, tick, worming, flea collars, etc.) are all bad news. And its never good to mix topical meds with pills.... Stupid over the counters aren't marked properly at all so no one realizes. Couldn't tell you how many flea med overdose cases we saw at the vets office i used to work at....
My mind just boggles all over again at that thought---even a handful of cases should require, at the very least, that these medications be VERY carefully labeled, and even that has apparently been too much to ask? Some of the stories of loss that I read were dating back a year, so for my dad to pick up a box at the store a year later that has not advanced at all to protect our animals just makes me feel that much more crazy with the anger at this/these companies!
They shouldn't be allowed to sell them at all, but if they refuse to outright pull them off the market until they are safe, they need to share knowledge about the best way to avoid this bad reaction.
Thank you, again! I've learned my lesson the hard way, but thank God, not the hardest way.
From what I've heard prior to this, there's been what I'd describe as a "small but notable" number of dog owners that have been having problems with this product since last May. It seems to have a more serious effect on smaller dogs.
That said, the few run-ins I've had with Hartz pet products makes me wary of anything they put out. To be fair, this has been their fish medications, but... still. O.o
I can't tell you how thankful I am that my boy weighs a solid 85 pounds and is a big guy. You're right, I read too many stories of smaller dogs whose reactions were swift and who didn't make it. Teddy suffered more than enough, and his seizure like activity was more than enough to put the wary cubed in me, but yeah----I'm thankful he is a big 'un.
