What genre is to me...

I write genre. Why do I say this: because I write urban fantasy and horror. Thus, I’ve accepted that label… but am I right?

where as poorly written science fiction, fantasy, etc. can get a fan following of millions and spawn TV and movie franchises

You forgot fantastic science fiction/fantasy that gets "butchered" (no pun intended) going from book to TV, like "The Dresden Files," by Jim Butcher. Ridiculously good books. Craptastic TV show. I am extremely glad the rights have reverted to Jim. Perhaps now we can get the show we deserve.

Absolutely!!! What the hell were they thinking!!! You can add Constantine to that list too... seriously, let's shove a six comic book series with complex characters and plot into 42 minutes and make sure none of the universe is explained to newbies... THEN change one of the loved characters from the comics into someone unappealing and unrecognizable so the fans of Constantine are alienated...

Just to add, in both cases I thought they had picked a perfect lead actor, which is even more of waste and makes me just that little bit more angry...
