      It was now one in the morning. Ryan was sitting on the plush sofa in their living room. He had lost track of how many nights he stayed up waiting for Spencer to return. He stared at the faded yellow rug his mother had bought them as an engagement gift. Ryan detested it, but it was a gift and he wasn’t going to give into the urge to burn it.
