Diamond came to me as an adult and has turned out to be perfect. I'm sure you'll find some lovely, mellow cats once you start looking.

I was going to mention that -- if you want a cat that's a bit mellower, an older one is definitely the place to go. I hate going to humane societies because I know I can't take all the cats home, but it's much easier to leave kittens behind because I know someone else will likely pick them. Slinky was about two and a half when I got her, and I haven't missed her kitten stage at all.

That's exactly why and how Poppy Cat moved to Marin County a few months ago. He's much happier in a place where he can go outside all the time and patrol an entire complex, and he gets so much exercise that he's lost his tummy. He's grown a bit. I got to see him over Thanksgiving in his new digs.

My older black and white cat (12+) is far happier with the new girl kitty who took up in my back yard in June. She's young but has a much calmer, gentler personality.

Thanks, I've had very mixed feelings about this, and knowing someone else who's given a cat away for reasons like this makes me feel better ;)
