This person sounds like a complete asshole but there is a definite level of truth in it.And it also makes me think about how complicated it is to juggle between languages and become proficient in two of them. I can't call myself proficient in terms of writing for English and Chinese, but I am in terms of speech. Which oddly doesn't make sense? I ( Read more... )

日本語, !worth remembering, obviously i think too much, монгол, i'm sorry plz hit me, cantonese, chinese

I think that may of been a little harsh.
I know a lot of people will make do with translations that maybe are not the greatest but are at least understandable because they love the manga so much.
I have read some translations that have been a little confusing I admit but I forgive it because translating is not and cannot be easy to do and someone has still taking the time and effect to try and help people know what is happening within a manga. :)

Anyway I can understand why having all those languages in your head could be confusing but I am sure you are better then you think. ^_^

Haha, the way this person phrased it was completely a stab right into people who can't manage English very well. Though, tbh, every part written in there is very true. It's just the tone... :|

/o/ The mass orgy happens on and off. ;D

It was a very rude tone. :/ There are nicer ways to put it if they felt that strongly.. ^^;

Hahahahah!! XD Sounds a bit like my head when I start thinking of yaoi couples to much... XD XD

Aww, I think that makes sense, though! If you go from a language with less rigid structure and try to learn a more structured one, it can be hard! I have the opposite problem. English made me used to more strict rules for punctuation, then I go to Arabic, where there's no such thing as a run-on sentence and you can use commas as many times as you like and just toss a period in when you feel like things have gone on too long.

Sounds like fun, though! I have to consciously switch between languages.

LOL. Sounds like the same thing I have for Mongol. :| Mongol's commas = "and". ._. So even if you wanted to pause in a sentence there is no indication of it. /o/

Yeah. When you know more than 1 it definitely does that to your brain. xD

Well, there might be some truth to that letter, but it just makes that person look like a self-absorbed translator who believes only his/her work is good enough *shakes head* I will never get people who have fun trolling like that... Frankly, I feel like giggling every time I see just how angry they can get over stupid things ^^ Manga should be FUN !!!

"I can't call myself proficient in terms of writing for English and Chinese, but I am in terms of speech." <<<<< *nod nod* Because we hear much more English than we read. So true! Sometimes it's easier to express myself in English too. They have some nice expressions ;)

XD;; Well, there are people who place linguistics, language as number one in their priority list. They simply cannot stand it if the script has the least bit error - probably more like a pet peeve, but there isn't no truth to this piece written, no matter how "almighty" this person turned out.

Yeah. :| I read little books, so it's sad I don't usually write haha. I get so lazy so...

In the first place, he is generalizing. No doubt there are poor fan-translations out there, there are also poor official translations.

THIS ^. The team who translated the first English volume of Negima were sacked because they did such a poor job. Official translations can also have a very annoying habit of making their translations very 'American-ized' as well. X/1999 was a victim of this. The incredibly cheesy translation made me grit my teeth reading it. And I've heard of quite a few series lately that have been being re-translated in recent years, largely because of piss-poor (or heavily edited) original translations.

And well done for reading his/her entire rant. I could only stomach the first two paragraphs.

awww...I kinda feel sorry for those fan translators.
I think they just wanted to spread the love, so that other(who don't understand anything in raw) fans might enjoy it too.

Although that jerk has a point, she doesn't need to be that harsh...some of them don't have english as their native language so grammar errors is not unavoidable.
I can kinda compare them to the google translate. Sometimes it doesn't make sense but at least you can extract the idea.

Perhaps so. Often, I've seen them not in very readable and fluent English, but only because I know my English isn't perfect either and I still make grammatical mistakes here and there that I tend to be able to understand them.

Haha, yeah. But the thing is, it has truth in it so. :|
