Extreme dilemma!

I'm very very very troubled now. After considering and opening up my options, it seems SOAS isn't the ultimate best choice after all, even though SOAS is known for its language/culture courses and it's still an excellent school.

Sheffield - I'm eligible for a 6,500 pounds (YES POUNDS) scholarship because I'm an IB student. That's great. It means I ( Read more... )

Looking at just the Last number of 42,000 SGD she posted, that is roughly $34,326.60 USD if the Currency calculator is right. Basically a Shit load of money that could get you a New car (with money left over) or a Small house @_@

I think blurry have covered most of it. I'd say also consider what elective there is that you can take so that your only interesting classes are not just language classes. I don't know much abt these schools but I prefer big school in large city -> more activities + more student benefits.

Exactly. The fact that Leeds states them out so clearly gives me some sort of assurance about their course planning and activities. SOAS didn't, but from their range of subjects given (mainly languages which I'm interested in, but there's also cultural studies with history/geography/econs) it seems it's also worth considering.

Which explains that I'll still be stuck between choosing Leeds and SOAS. :O

Large cities...are going to be noisy. SOAS is right in London, which means it'll be noisy but Leeds isn't a small town either, so it's going to be a relatively bustling city too.

OMG! That's so expensive :( In that case it may be best to try out for those that offer scholarships, especially if you don't have a preference for the courses at one of them.

I also agree with blurry. There are so many things to consider, even I'm getting a brain freeze :(

You are really brave to move so far way! Still, it's a good thing you have more than one option! When I chose my university, I did it together with my mom. We looked over the selection criteria and regulations and decided together. Us here on LJ can't help very much (though we would really love to and are rooting for you), so you should talk at length with someone about all the aspects of each school.

My preference for all the schools have been made - they offered me the Japanese/Japanese studies course. :)

Yeah, not that my mom doesn't care, but she isn't sure of such things so she's leaving these to me. I've spoken to my careers counselor at school (she recommended me Leeds, SOAS and Sheffield), and well, let's just say it's definitely helpful but the ultimate decision is mine.

...not exactly yelling for help LOL. I'm just stating out the stuff so I can come back to this post later and read over again.
