“Envy consists in seeing things never in themselves, but only in their relations. If you desire glory, you may envy Napoleon,
but Napoleon envied Caesar, Caesar envied Alexander, and Alexander, I daresay, envied Hercules, who never existed.”

A crowded pavement comes into sight.

Filled with people from different places.

Filled with a variety of expressions.

The man upset from losing his job.

The woman happy for her daughter's success.

The child screaming at the top of his lungs looking for his parents.

But as we look more closely, we notice a girl standing at the back.

Staring at everyone.

That girl is different.

She loathes how everyone looks better than her.

She thinks she is not beautiful enough.

This girl is Livia, a girl with an aura of insecurity.

She spends most of her time on the sidelines, Staring at people's features.

What they are most proud about.

--

She goes unnoticed.

Until, one day, Livia Is wearing a plain white mask, with a sad face drawn on it with black marker.

The black lines are smeared from humidity and the right eyes looks like it is crying.

The black smears the mask.

An expression of agony.

But that is the only face she can show.

Because, you see. Livia was such an envious girl.

She envied all the others, but never once did she look at herself and appreciate her fine features.

For that, her features eventually started to

Fade away.

She had no features to show expressions so she wore masks.

Plain masks which she tried to sketch her expressions on with a permanent marker.

Hoping that this way, it would never go away.

“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own.”
