I see an AU with AJ as a scrappy, sinewy streetkid picking pockets so he doesn't have to give up worse. He's a rank amateur next to the Guild kids, but he's not a joiner, so he gets a lot of black eyes for 'tipping off marks'. One day, an older man's poised to break his fingers against the pavement and Remy steps in. After a battle of accented French and hand gestures AJ's sure are rude, the other man backs down, and Remy takes him under his proverbial wing. N'aww.
Lance/ScottLord, it'd be a dance of manners like a freaking Austen novel. They're both such closet cases. If Lance came, say, to the school as an instructor...hmm ( ... )

He'd of course be with JC as a substitute for Remy, a salve for the pain of the night neither of them can forget. (Note my Comic Book Cornspeak (tm).) But eventually he'd come to appreciate JC's mellowness, his offbeat sense of humor, his intolerance for self-pity, and the fact that loyalty never compromises his ability to make his own choices. And JC, unlike Remy, is both around more and less likely to get himself killed. What was a replacement for love turns into love for real.

And what you did with lance/scott for JM. My brain for some reason kept tossing out "lance" and replacing it with "kevin" for some odd reason. And now my brain is just wandering off inserting Kevin into the x-universe as different folks and seeing what works.

Alex/DeanEveryone leaves them both, and both of them feel cursed to keep caring. They're the sort of guys you'd hit in the jaw, but they'd still turn up with a fortuitous bullet just in time to stop your death. They don't consider knowing the Truth Is Out There a blessing or a burden, so much as a job. They're good soldiers, and when there's no one to give them orders they do it themselves. it's a dark reflection of our world, and they're in the mental hospital together. both very young, both recovering from suicide attempts. they're alone, shaken and shaking from the things that pluck at their minds and the fears that feast below--until once, they both see the same nightmare walking. john makes gerard write it down before he speaks, the thing he can't hear over or see through--and he does, pressure making jagged marks with the crayon. the same description john wrote on his own paper, without sharing a word. 'tall, red eyes, long nose like a melted candle, two sicle teeth, silver chain on its wrist and the WINGS...'
the shrinks would call it a shared delusion, or worse, a prank, but they know. now they know they're one kind. now they're alone together.
