While I agree this is a horrible, tragic incident, and it’s clear the U.S. forces are at fault, I didn’t see anything in either report-not in the actual facts, at least, as opposed to people’s opinions-to indicate it was anything worse than a senseless, brutal accident. To describe it as “a despicable, deliberate, vengeful act”-not your words but those of Lloyd’s widow-seems both unsupported and malicious. She’s upset and no one can blame her, and clearly the soldiers involved should be punished appropriately. But it is war, and horrible things happen in war, including people firing on innocents. There was a crossfire, there were troops from both sides shooting, and Lloyd was shot by an Iraqi bullet as well, yet no one is calling for their heads.

Nor did I see anything to indicate a disregard for journalists. Or a cover-up. Just a terrible incident that shouldn’t have happened but did.

I can understand why this would strike a nerve for you. I just don’t see how it’s any worse than so many other things that have happened recently.

I think that's part of why I'm so upset, really...it's definitely got personalized triggers for me, but I think this is the proverbial straw, you know?
