I made my blanket out of the red heart stuff. Your hat is cute! Too bad it is not warm - but if you want it softer you can rinse it with water and then stick it in the dryer with a dryer sheet. :)
I just crocheted a hat too! It took up like 14 straight hours of my life O_O And I don't even know if I like it or not. Haha. It's cute as a hat, but I'm not a hat person, I don't think, so I don't know if it even looks right on me. I'll have to post a picture.
For the scarf, you might want to pick up a book like the Crochet Stitch Bible, and just look through it until you find a stitch you like.
A couple of years ago I used the rope stitch to make a scarf out of recycled silk, and I was able to make a little go a long way. Though I mainly picked that stitch because it worked well with the inconsistent thickness of the silk threads.
Another crochet suggestion! Look for a ruffle scarf pattern, it's just basic stitches with increases each row to make a ruffle. That would be pretty with bamboo, and it shouldn't be too difficult. The last one I made was with a slightly thick yarn, but I was able to start and finish in just one evening.
The Clap is gorgeous and I'd love one, but I know it'll be ages before I'll ever be capable of it.
As for your hat not being warm enough, make a second one in a contrasting color and seam them together at the edge. Then when you cuff it up, the other color will show and nobody will know that it wasn't intentional.
And omigod look at that stash cart!!! LOVE it!! Looks like Raina's plotting on how to get some for herself LOL
That's a good idea for the hat. If I make the other one slightly smaller it should fit better, too.
I piled up the stash on a small bookcase I was using for my Nativity set and tabletop Christmas tree. Everything's faced so there's nothing behind what you can see in the photos. And that's just the stuff I got from the grab bags. I have several tupperware boxes of other yarn. So yeah, I really need to make more stuff.
