If she really wants an afghan, you should get her to buy the yarn (crochet takes 3x what knitting does and knitting takes a metric assload...). Then, if you're feeling at all like driving home the point, figure up the number of hours you'll be working on it and pay yourself slave-labor wages: $2 - $4/hour added to the top of the yarn cost. Itemize the list.

If she agrees to the final cost, then maybe. If not, then she doesn't grok what's entailed and really should stop asking. ^_^
