So about a week ago or so, I had Picasa chugging away, converting some RAWs into JPEGs. My computer said, "ARGH!! TOO MUCH STRESS!" and decided to hide from the world by shutting itself off. I let it sit for a day or two before I tried to boot it again.

If it keeps shutting itself off, could it be the power supply?

(that's what my ghost in the machine was some years ago)

Could be. It mostly shuts itself off during heavy processing, though, so I'm not sure if it's the power supply or the fan. Power supply would probably be easier to replace than the fan. Either way, I don't intend to put any more money into this machine, at least not in the near future, 'cause I want to save up for a mac. Maybe after I get a Mac I'll see about fixing the hardware problems with this one.

Dad's giving me his old laptop. It's got a teeny harddrive and no USB, but I can use it to get on the Internet if my home computer should crash. So I'm especially in no hurry to spend money on the desktop, because I have a back-up if need be.
