I have raised a baby raccoon. Oh, they LOOK so cute. And they are SO smart.
But lemme tell ya, they are the meanest things on four legs you will ever meet. They are more mean and tenacious than a pit bulldog. (The one I had ATTACKED a pitbulldog that managed to bust into my folks house and even forced it to stop attacking MY dog.)
We raised Rocky (named before we realized that she was a she) and intended to let her go when she reached maturity. Well, because of a birth defect, we realized that she was practically blind and kept her until she died of old age at 12 years old. (they only live for 3 years in the wild). She was leash trained and had the run of the house until she was 9 and was so blind and feeble she couldn't be trusted not to get herself into trouble. We even took her on our yearly pilgrimages to Baltimore to visit family every summer and would walk her like a dog at the rest areas.
It was cool, but it was also alot of work and responsibility.
We found out (the hard way) that we needed a license to own a domestic (meaning not imported) wild animal. So, I got a license that's good for life for me to raise raccoons. I hope I never need to dust it off and use it.

That is so nice of you guys to take her under your wing, though. Not many people would do that.
