So to confirm, these master posts don't link directly to ao3? There is a post on the XMRB comm, which links to a master post on both the artist and author's LJs. These master posts on the personal LJ pages can link to ao3/lj/etc.?

Exactly. Your master post (on your journal) can link to ao3, but the one in the main community shouldn't link directly to ao3.
