R3, Everyday Love in Stockholm - Human!Charles all cooped up tahariel December 31 2011, 10:59:44 UTC
Prompt: Magneto is the ruler of the posthuman world.

His only secret? Charles Xavier, the human he's kept locked in his bedroom ever since his right-hand woman, Mystique, came to him pleading for mercy for her stepbrother, who accepted her mutant form and protected her as a child. The human he started fucking after Mystique was killed in battle, despite the guilt he feels at contaminating even this last promise to the woman who was integral to his life's work and happiness.

XXXThough he wants it badly enough to burn, so much that he feels sometimes he might spontaneously combust if they don’t, they haven’t had penetrative sex, because Charles has not offered or asked, and Erik cannot bear the thought of asking and being told no, or worse yet, of asking and being told yes if Charles does not want it. He has taken enough from Charles as it is ( ... )

He hums thoughtfully, tucking the sheet away with the rest in his file to look at again later. “Europe isn’t going to like this,” he says, leaning back in his chair and lacing his fingers together over his chest. “They were leery enough about South America to send assistance, useless though it was. If Asia starts going too, we could be looking at another world war, if Europe decides they want to step in ( ... )

The workroom is Erik’s favourite room in the apartment. It hadn’t been, at first; but slowly over the time he’s spent here it’s become less a room he took over from somebody else and more one he’s filled up with parts of himself, bits of metal and tools lined up in boxes and on shelves, paperwork and sketches of things to work on splayed out like the internal works of some mechanical beast, all gears and coiled springs on show for an engineer to examine. There are abandoned mugs here, too, as in the rest of the apartment, testament to Charles’ ongoing commitment to drowning the both of them in tea. Erik has not told him how much it costs now - it’s a small extravagance he can afford to provide, something workaday and invisible for Charles to appreciate without knowing it ( ... )

“Why do you like me?” Charles repeats, wide-eyed and earnest, and does not look away when Erik stares at him, mouth set in a determined line. “I mean, of all the people in all the world, I’m forced upon you by my sister and you just happen to lo- like me. It just seems ( ... )

As ever, you've written this amazing comment, and I just know I can't do it justice in my reply!

I'm really glad you're enjoying the politics of it. For the rest of this part (part four, not just this update) I really had to sit down and do a lot of planning, because things are about to get complicated. Timelining was the biggest factor, actually, working out when things could happen realistically. So to have it working (at least so far!) is a big relief!

I absolutely agree that both Charles and Erik are in a precarious position here, where a sidestep from either of them could topple the whole house of cards. And yet they stay together and find a way to support each other. It's interesting trying to keep that momentum of their relationship going once they're already together, because I don't want it to get stale and it has to grow and evolve as we go through. Lots of challenges for me but lots of fun, too :)

That last vignette just makes me want to weep a bit. The idea of how Charles comes to understand that's he's wanted and that's he's special to Erik just makes me want to hug them both and make everything that they've had done to them so far melt away.

This is another one of those moments where I know that the fall is really going to kill me more than I can express right now.

Oh BEAUTIFUL. Beautiful chapter, again you draw a lovely balance between Erik's introspection and the external movements of his government. Topping this with the image of Erik working on a mobile, Raven's pregnancy, and his comparison to a chestnut... brilliant. The... roundness of this chapter, the softness that's starting to show around everything surrounding and inhabiting Erik is starting to show, and I ache for the time when, indeed, he is too 'sharp' to hurt Charles when Charles finally-and literally also-lets him in. It's painful and new and frightening for Erik, I can tell, who's been 'sharp' all his life, but, you're getting there, Erik. You made Emma smile.

Thank YOU for this lovely update. Always a pleasure to read.

Thank you so much! That's so good to hear. Getting the ratio of outside life to inside life right is one of my big worries so I'm glad it's working for you. This is such a lovely comment and I feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)
