Alex/Sean or [GEN]; self-hatred and prejudice (warning: homophobia, slurs)

Alex Summers doesn't like gay people at all. He's not violently homophobic, though, and he probably wouldn't go out of his way to harass gay people. But all his life Alex has believed that male homosexuals are just straight boys who got very screwed up at some point, and that he's a prime example of this. So when he learns that Sean is queer, he's thrown for a loop. Sean is comfortable with his sexuality, and relatively open for the 60s, and doesn't take shit about it from anyone.
Alex doesn't know how to reconcile his mental image of a weak faggot with this beautiful ginger who's brave and strong and who once saved his life. It forces him to reevaluate his prejudices, and Sean's willing to help, so long as Alex doesn't insult him anymore. Eventually, Alex feels like he's ready to come out to Sean - assuming the other boy doesn't already know.
Can end with the two of them in a relationship, or turn out non-shippy, if you want, with Alex and Sean as just best friends and bros.

Well, I see that you've already posted the beginning already (and I am excited and will scurry off to read right after this quick answer), but I might as well answer. Let the record show I am totally okay with Sean/female. I tend to think of him as bisexual myself, because he's a free spirit and if nothing else it makes the aquarium scene even more amusing. (In some ways, that adds another layer, too, because then there could be this element of "wait, but you liked girls! I thought you were normal!") ~OP

Okay, cool. I don't have everything planned out to the letter, but I'm thinking I might go with this, or at least have several mentions of Sean/OFC. Thanks for clarifying. Also I am so excited about writing this you have no idea.

Oh gosh, I've read this ten times over the weekend and I've been trying to get together some coherent thoughts and I didn't realize I couldn't post anon to your actual entry at first. But it's really great! I'm glad the other parts will be longer, but for an introduction it worked well. It sets up a really interesting dynamic between Alex and Sean. I love the last few lines, the way the scene ends completely unresolved. I am so excited, and cannot wait to read more! ^^ ~OP
