Erik and Charles hook up a few times on the roadtrip, but Erik puts a stop to it by the time they get to the mansion. He knows he has to kill Shaw and he doesn't need the distraction and he thinks Charles might want way more than casual sex, and Erik doesn’t do anything more. So the rest of the movie happens, and the beach divorce, and then Erik starts to get sick. He hides it for as long as he can, but eventually Raven finds out, and forces him to admit that he thinks he’s dying from radiation poisoning from that power source Shaw was consuming.

Charles is using Cerebro the first time he feels it. It’s an improved model from the one they’d abandoned to the CIA (“Mark Two,” Hank said proudly, and then stopped and counted on his fingers. “No, wait, if the prototype was 1.0, and I went through four revisions before I met you, and we made changes, and then-”) and it’s a little easier to control the sudden, overwhelming rush of a million million minds, filter it down to ten thousand, one thousand, a hundred, a handful of mutant children. The ones in danger and the ones unable to control their mutations, the ones who need his help the most. Sometimes he feels the urge to touch that mind, look at another, sample those thoughts. It’s not necessarily someone in trouble, not necessarily even a mutant, just a fascinating mind that grazes his own in passing, distracting as a butterfly on wing. It’s too easy to get distracted, and he cannot afford distractions

Erik bends over the sink, cupping water straight from the faucet to his mouth and spitting it back. It takes a while until the sour acid taste in his mouth is gone, and he stays hunched over longer, staring at himself in the mirror as the water keeps running, unheeded. His fingers grip the porcelain until his knuckles pale

They’ve disagreed on more than a few things since he broke her out of CIA custody. Erik can admit that it took him some time to start thinking about long-term plans. After Cuba, his primary objective had been to find a base where they could stay in relative secrecy and security. A significant amount of Shaw’s fortune had been sunk into his private luxury submarine headquarters, and was now much scrap metal mouldering away on a distant beach, and tapping into the rest

Yes, Erik, Charles would have approved.
Is it ridiculous that I feel worried for Erik and the baby? He should be getting more rest and vitamins, omg. If Charles finds out, he'll insist he stay at the mansion, at least for the baby's sake, right?

It’s been three weeks since they broke Emma out, and six since they started to infiltrate Langley. Over three months since Cuba. If Erik could choose, he wouldn’t rush this stage of the operation. Two prongs of it have to be simultaneous, but the third deserves more time and care than he can afford. Time is something he’s started to consider a luxury, however, and these are things he has to do before it runs short.
Wearing an old man’s face and a five hundred dollar suit, Raven leads him and Emma through a surprisingly drab hallway, the paintings ugly undistinguished prints and the carpet bare in patches. The way to Agent MacTaggart’s office is very different from that Erik remembers, and the office is different, too. The modish glass-fronted room has become a small cubicle, sharing the windowless space with three others. The plaque by the door reads Cheque Fraud. Moira looks the same, her dark head bent over her desk. Just looking at the part of her hair fills Erik with breathless frustration

“No, not with my current clearance. I’m not part of the mutant division anymore,” Moira says, and even without telepathic insight, Erik can see the despair and the anger running through her like fracture lines. A clever, capable woman, Moira MacTaggart; losing everything she worked for must hurt terribly. Losing part of her own history must hurt worse

“You’re going to love this,” Sean had assured him, glowing with sincerity, “I’ve been up and down in it like fifty times, it’s so cool it’s out of sight,” and Charles had buried his agony at having to depend on such contrivances at all in the reality of Sean and Alex’s expectant faces

I just read this whole fill and I love it. Can't wait to see everyone's reactions when they find out what happened to Erik. I feel so sorry for Raven on this last part.
But he’s not sick. He’s pregnant.
