~BEACH BALL IN THE WINTER~

There are days in a year where the weather awfully contradicts its seasons and then things get a little off.  Like maybe a bone-chilling snowstorm that makes toes curl and eyelashes freeze right smack dab in the middle of thousand degrees summer-usually so hot the heat waves are as clear as clouds in the sky and sometimes you have to squint to keep from being blind.  Or maybe it’s the completely opposite-a sudden heat wave, maybe a drought in the middle of a mind-numbing frozen bleak winter.  These days make everyone lose it, and sometimes, just sometimes…things get a little out of hand.

Jin laughs because he’s feeling it.  Feeling a little like a kid, a little like acting childish, and annoying, and fun.  When he simply decides to stop standing around feeling bored and looking bored…when he simply decides to stop being boring overall, he feels it again.

“Let’s play some ball,” he announces, prancing over to the middle of the room, climbs onto the sofa with one foot perched on the edge of the seat, and smiles brighter than the sun itself.

Kame winces, thinks that Jin’s on drugs and he shrugs; thinks again when Jin pounces off the sofa’s edge and onto the coffee table, nearly knocking over Kame’s now-chilled morning coffee.

“Uh…Jin…it’s like snowing outside,” Kame blinks, sighs as he quickly grabs the mug, scared as hell when Jin jumps off the table and instead starts advancing towards Kame.

“Hmmm…is that so…? You’re silly, Kazu, haven’t you taken a look outside? It’s a simply gorgeous day,” Jin purrs casually as he lifts a hand to cup Kame’s chin, tilting his head up so that he can look into those eyes.  And he thinks, ah, I love him.

Kame feels the blood rush to his ears, to his face, his nose, and eyes, and all the way to the tip of his hair and he pulls away-a little more than bright scarlet.

He doesn’t realize Jin’s touch can make him feel things like that.

And he thinks, ah, I love him.

But oh, there are always complications, and trouble, and pain, is there not?  Kame cringes as these thoughts filter into his head, making the supposedly sunny weather wilt away into a mass of grayness and depression.

Oh, and especially if you both happen to be best friends.

“U-uh…uhh…yeah…let’s g-go play ball…or whatever…” he replies, more blood filling up his face as he glances away, tilting on one side to keep from seeing Jin’s face.  Because he thinks he’ll die of embarrassment.

-

The weather is hot, hot, hot, and hot. The heat is crackling and sizzling and it doesn’t let up. Kame instantly feels sweat creeping down his neck as soon as their out of the air-conditioned automobile, the windows are rolled up and he thinks it’s going to be a bitch when they leave.  The sun bakes the glass windshield of their red Lexus and Kame squints, raises a hand to his forehead so he can actually see.

The beach is nice, there are waves and water and salt.  And maybe a bit of fresh air, but Kame doubts this because he remembers hearing somewhere that the world is fucking polluted.  There’s also people and beach balls, surfers, clouds, laughter, tan skin, and sky, and a half-naked Jin holding a rainbow beach ball half the size of him.

Oh boy, what fun.  Kame thinks, still squinting and sweat pouring down his temples as he looks at Jin from behind, marveling his tan hips.  It was supposedly winter after all, and Kame himself was as pale as a ghost. Tan bodies. Is all Kame can think when he continues throwing glances at Jin’s back, relishing the broad shoulders, lean neck, muscular biceps, and slim waist from the back view.

He likes it.

A lot.

Maybe a little too much.

Jin turns around to smile at him and he says something Kame doesn’t hear because he’s too busy looking at Jin’s teeth, and his eyes, his lips, and that tongue that’s darting and moving around in his mouth, his nose, cheekbones, and eyelashes, the crinkles near his eyes when he grins like that.

Oh yum. Kame thinks because he’s dirty like that. And stupid, a tad bit more than just foolish, he’s blind.

“Ohh…uhh what’d you say?” Kame blinks once, twice, three times because Jin’s not replying.

“I said…that we should go over there to that empty net,” Jin points at a spot somewhere faraway and Kame nods along, not really caring where the hell they go or what the hell they do because anything with Jin is sure to be interesting. Ah, I love him.

Heading over to said spot, Jin starts humming.  Loudly.  Kame makes a face because the song is not actually a song, it’s random off-tune notes and makes no complete sense when Jin tries adding lyrics to it.  But then again, Kame can’t help it when a small smile plays on his lips, recalling that when Jin sings unconsciously without much thought, he pretty much sounds like he can’t sing to save his soul.

The sun is still bright, the clear sky is still blue, the sand is still a scorching sea of fire when skin comes into contact with it, and the ball is still a dizzying rainbow, but when Kame plays a game of volleyball with Jin, all he can see is his smile and his twinkling eyes, the sparkling laughter like apple cider on a cold evening (but of course it was nowhere near cold).

Kame curses at himself as he serves the ball over the net, not really watching it as it soars high into the air like it’s reaching for the stars.  He curses himself for being such an idiot.

Kame doesn’t think it this time, because he already knows it, the full statement etched out complete and like a published novel written and typed out neatly in his mind.

He loves Jin.

~FALL LEAVES IN THE SPRING~

The grass is dead and yellow, a mixed hues of brown, puke green, and weed color.  Jin frowns, pulls along roughly at Kame’s tie who’s dragging his feet as he’s pulled along, a grim frown on his face too.

Jin thinks the world is ending simply because the leaves fell early this year. Okay so maybe they fell  really really, early.  Kame sighs, scrunches his eyebrows up together as Jin stomps through the foot tall fallen leaves, the muddy, murky grass now completely disappearing under the bed of leaves.

“ARGGGGHHH!! It’s supposed to be spring!!” Jin cries indignantly, throwing his hands up in the air as though he’s blaming god-spring had always been his favorite season and somehow it got completely ignored…maybe God decided to forget all about spring and instead skipped right to fall.

Jin sighs too, a seriously annoyed frown draws down the corners of his mouth as he pouts, wanting someone to make things right again, someone to make him feel all better.  He sulks. He stomps his feet.  He jumps up and down on the crunchy leaves; every time his weight lands on them they make a delicious crackling noise.  Kame smiles. He suddenly has an idea, it’s not genius, or perfect, or revolutionary, but it’s good enough, because it makes him smile…and he knows, it would definitely make Jin smile.

“Hey, Jin, I’ve got an idea.”

Jin pouts, ignores Kame’s silky smooth voice and his arched eyebrows, his hovering smile and the gleaming eyes, Jin begins to think he can barely take it.  He wants it all, wants the neck, the lips, the forehead and the teasing collarbones.  He wants to run his fingertips over the abundance of the milky white shoulders and the ears.  He’s always wanted ears like that to himself. To touch, to kiss and tease and make some sort of sexy sound come out when he does that.

Jin’s heart doesn’t like to listen when he tells it to.  A flash of surprise quickly flashes over his eyes when he feels it starting to race, it’s pulsing beat creating an unwanted rhythm.  Jin flushes a bit and wants to smack himself in the forehead, blushes again when Kame catches this and throws him an awkward glance.

Before Jin’s mind can absorb what’s happening, he’s soaring into the air as something hard and fast rams into his body, making his breath hitch sharply as all oxygen is stripped from his breath. Jin grunts desperately as his lower half collides with the ground, crunching over the leaves as he comes crashing down.  His eyes are shut tight when all movements finally stop, and he's shouting, “KAME! What the fuck was that!!  That hurt you know!”

He opens his eyes and thinks Woah, I seriously gotta stop drinking so much because what he sees is anything but expected.  It’s Kame perched on top of his body, his legs wrapped around Jin’s hips and he’s looking at him passively, not knowing much about what’s going on either.  Jin tries to stop, he really tries, restraining himself to the best of his abilities, but somehow in some way, he can’t.  No matter how hard he tries, the inner Jin that wants Kame more than anything else in the world takes over at that second and it’s done, it’s over.

Kame’s lips are quirked in a silly smile when he looks down at Jin, obviously not knowing what is going on in Jin’s mind.  Jin wants to slap himself in the face, he wants Kame to slap him in the face-he wants to wake up from this stupid fantasy and these stupid thoughts and …and…

Jin’s thoughts are cut short by his own actions, in a single second, his pushes his head up just a tiny bit as he thinks Just a little taste…we won’t even notice…just a tiny bit can’t hurt…and his lips meet Kame’s.  For this tiny fraction of a second, every dream he’s ever had about Kame comes true, and it’s just like he’s ever imagined it.  It’s soft, and sweet and lovely.  And Kame smells like fucking heaven. Jin thinks he’s intoxicated because he truly and honestly believes it really isn’t possible to smell that good, or feel that good, or taste that good.  For that fraction of a second, every miniscule nerve in his body goes into overdrive and every thought resembling any itty bitty piece of saneness is blasted into oblivion.  He can taste the spring on Kame, he can taste the sugar, the honey, the colors of the rainbow all mixed into one measly kiss.

A kiss that’s maybe not so measly.

Then, everything ends as quickly as it happened. Jin tilts his head back and away, leaning it back down heavily against the crunching crimson, orange, and golden leaves.  He blushes the color of the bright ruby leaf next to his ear as his gaze locks with Kame’s, an undeniable truth about the circumstances hit him. A ring of emotions smolder in those eyes and Jin burns up again, he simply can’t stop feeling like a complete idiot even though he definitely would like to do it again.

He feels like dying, he feels like running straight for a brick wall and smashing his head into it.  Because basically, he had just turned their best-friend relationship into something else. Something completely different, maybe even wrong.  Something that cannot be changed back, no matter how hard they try to fix it, it would never work the same way.

As realization hits, Jin’s face contorts into confusion and regret-remorse is tinting dark and thick along the lining of his eyes.  He thinks Oh god, I’ve done it now. I can’t believe I just did that…Oh my god.

Kame flushes once, pushes himself off of Jin and stands up shakily, his head spinning and Jin can’t help it but notices that Kame remained perched on his body just a tad bit too long…even though he has to admit he liked it of course.

“I…I…that was an-an accident…S-sorry,” Jin blurts as Kame stands up, brushing the leaves off his body and he glances down at Jin.

Kame’s face distorts in pain as Jin utters these words and he walks away, heartbreak hangs heavily over the air.  I knew it…he’s all disgusted now because I kissed him, isn’t he? Jin screams silently, a heavy pang in his heart as it sinks deep into his stomach.

And he knows something.  Something unquestionable, something as true as the blue in the sky, something as clear as day. Even though he would never admit it.

He loves Kame.
