Fright Night Review (SPOILERS)

Aug 26, 2011 11:10

Before I begin my review, there are a few things I need to get off my chest. First off, I LIKE the idea of remakes. (Notice IDEA). They offer additional source material to draw from for fannish activities, they bring new people to fandom, and they rekindle interest in the older source material. Sometimes they are horrible (Starsky and Hutch), ( Read more... )

I enjoyed it alot as well. I agree that there was a real BTVS/ATS feeling to it.

Oooh good to know, I'm not usually into horror movies, but I love David Tennant so I wanted to see it anyway, but now it sounds even more appealing! :)

I think if it were The Lost Boys, I'd have issues about a remake - sacred cows and all - but it's Fright Night. I LOVED the original because it was a rockin' good time and I think the remake would be even more awesome because damn, we need to sweep away the brooding vampire cobwebs from pop culture. Jerry Dandridge is the PERFECT way to do that. I was just thinking today that I need to get to a theater some time this next week, with a big tub of popcorn and a Slushee. You've just reaffirmed my plans! LOL

Finally saw it this Wednesday and had to come comment!

I really liked the movie for the most part. I was kinda expecting it to be scarier since I remember the original freaking me the Frak out...but I was also a little kid the last time I saw that one.

I was also kinda mad that there wasn't any "Oh, you're so cool, Brewster!" at the end from an Evil Ed replacement *since Evil Ed was very clearly staked to death* I loved that in 80's vampire movies the threat of vampiric tyranny was never quite over, even when the Scobies think they've won. I missed that.

I LOVED the Chris Sarandon cameo though. YEAH HUMPERDINK JERRY!!!

And Peter/Ginger really was excellent. I wish I'd known sooner that David Tennant was in this cause they filmed it about an hour south of where I live and I TOTALLY would have gone and "stalked" him in the free time.

Pretty good horror movie imo and a VERY appreciated breathe of fresh air in a vampire mythos dominated by sparkle-pires and brooding whiny Heathcliffs.

And while she gets blamed for the attempted rape in Seeing Red, at the end of the day, Joss had to approve that storyline. I'm not absolving blame from Noxon in the slightest but I think several reviews I have read are trying to use their dislike of Noxon from BTVS to color their review of Fright Night. I'm not.

PREACH.
