Wedding dresses

Jan 09, 2009 10:44

Yesterday my sister and I went to David's Bridal in Schaumburg. I tried on some dresses that were really pretty. They felt a little younger and more playful than the ones at her store (does that even make sense?) so overall I liked them a little better.

Apparently I can't save the images, so here is the easier alternative--links!

I think #2 is very nice.
Why not get someone to sew you a wedding dress? You can be able to go in for a fitting.

That might be nice, but for one thing, I don't know any seamstresses talented enough to make a wedding dress, and I also have no exact dress design that I want. If I could just find someone, though, I could probably come up with something.

Go to more shops. Go to little shops too. do NOT settle on a dress until you have seen all the options.

This was my big mistake. I mean I loved my dress, but it wasnt until after I bought it that I found my dream dress in another shop.

Thanks for the advice ^^ I think I will wait then...that dress at the store is so adorable, but it's definitely not what I had in mind originally. (And my freaking sales lady decided to tell me it was a popular quinceanera choice x_X)

You're not in the Chicago area, are you? I was about to ask if you had any personal recommendations for shops.

Nah unfortunately Im in MI. Id look online though. I know for a fact though that Chicago is bound to have your perfect dress... but in the off chance that it doesnt, and you feel like traveling... the BEST bridal shoppe Ive ever been to was here: http://www.catanfashions.com/dynamic/default.aspx

ooooooh... that first image you've got showing, with the pale blue dress... I wantses it! *pout* Need to win the lottery.
Hmmm... are all those the same dress, just in different varieties?

Sounds like you had a better time at David's than I did. They were awful for me. But then, they don't carry ANYTHING in my size.

Speaking of online shopping... I've never bought anything from this site, but I've been ogling her gowns for almost a decade, now... Yosa.com - she's got some interesting pieces

Yeah, I saw yosa's site already! It's kind of funny, I actually discovered it like 10 years ago and stumbled upon it again while searching for gowns, haha. Today I was looking at the Romantic Gown and Miranda Gown.

And yeah, all those images are of the same dress. If you click on one you'll go to the official page and there are tons of links to photos with other variations. There's a sleeveless one, but I don't like it at all--it's too bottom-heavy. It needs to cover the shoulders. The girl wearing it, though, also has a pair of gorgeous fairy wings attached to her back, which I TOTALLY WANTED TO DO, hahaha!!

This is so weird... those were the two I was looking at, too. O_o

WINGS!
Simplicity's got some nifty wing patterns to play with right now.

I'm still working on cleaning the apartment, but I have to make pants, soon. (Mine are literally falling apart.) If I manage it, I'm going to try shirts, and then dresses.

No luck with dresses in the stores... and since the planning's on hold till I find work, I've got some time to find/attempt to make a dress.

By the way, did you see Yosa's "Tempest" gown? Also lovely.

Hmmm.... Need another opinion, here.
Do the seam lines on the pretty blue dress (the top part) seem to be kind of like this:
McCalls 4109

or more like this:
B4254

By the way, were you still going to make yourself some wings?

I think one of the McCall's is a little closer.

I'm not sure if I'll make my own wings, but I was thinking about getting some. It depends on what my budget looks like when we've got all the important stuff, and if I'll have someone able and willing to attach them properly. Rather than wear them for the reception, I'd like to wear them for the ceremony. I think I want the ceremony to be grander than the reception...

Those are very nice, but I definitely second the opinion that if you're not in love with it you should keep looking. I was with my best friend when she tried on THE right dress, and you could just tell. :3 It was perfect immediately.

We looked around at Marilee's Bridal (in Arlington Heights). They had some very nice dresses, but I don't necessarily know if there were any that would be what you were looking for.
