I'm so relieved to hear that everything turned out well, LK. I can't even imagine how terrifying that situation must have been. In a really tragic way, you're lucky you come from a family so intimately acquainted with breast cancer... otherwise, you might have passed your tumor off as a cyst when it could have been worse, and thank God it wasn't. I'm glad you had the knowledge and the support that you needed during that awful time
( ... )
My first scare was junior year of LSA, and it wasn't as big, maybe grape sized. It was a benign cyst, it got drained, it came back, but went away on its own within a couple months.
My mother was so freaked out she ate a whole block of cheese immediately after, not even touching the box of crackers right next to her. .... Which actually isn't necessarily that unusual, but, uh, we'll ignore that.
Breast Cancer is most easily cured when small, and the best way to detect these things early is to know what is and is not normal for your own boobs. And that's something that starts now, not the-day-you-turn-40-and-not-a-day-earlier.
In any case, *hugs*. I have one friend a year older than me going through breast cancer right now, I'm glad I don't have to add you to the list. If you need to talk, I'm here.
