Well, yeah...

Note that in the first linked article, comment 9 includes this:

I wish the President would just get up and say, "Enough of this bullshit. We have serious issues and problems in this country that require serious attention, and this childish garbage has distracted the grown-ups long enough."

And comment 11 includes this:

Quote from the chairman of the Republican National Committee:

"The president ought to spend his time getting serious about repairing our economy . . . Unfortunately his campaign politics and talk about birth certificates is distracting him from our number one priority - our economy."

Sigh. Watch that plank, Mr. Republican, you'll have someone's eye out with that...

To be fair, I should point out that many of those pointing out this preposterousness are themselves Americans, who are even more pissed off about it than we are. Bit unfair to imply they're all like that!

Obama shouldn't have even wasted his time on this nonsense, he's also probably the first president to produce his birth certificate.

But it wasn't going away. Something needed to be done, because as Obama himself pointed out, it was actually taking up news bandwidth that could have been devoted to something important.

Mind you, I'm not convinced this has actually helped...
