I hope my new thread will live up to the lofty ambitions I have for it! But yes, lots of sciencey people still believe in God (though, interestingly, I think few believe in less mainstream supernatural systems, like paganism). It'll be interesting to see if I can address that successfully at all...

I know you don't have the time to do the 30 days meme, but I don't think anyone else on my friends list has completed it, and of course I only finished through truly outrageous cheating!

Why does something absolutely have to be explained by science to make it tangible?

No, I'm not ignorant because I believe in God(s), or angels, or even the easter bunny .. nor is anyone else. Also, I'm not ignorant or brainwashed because my beliefs differ from yours.

I love the subject of theology.. and the unexplained.. I really believe that things are all for a reason.. a reason we cannot possibly understand without proper enlightenment.. and I really don't know what that is yet.. but for now I will follow what my heart says. I will always do what feels right for me. I respect science so much.. but I don't like how it pushes theory as fact.

Why don't you wait and see what I'm going to say before you try to answer it? ;p

But for the moment I'll just point out that I did mention I used to believe in God. I'll be addressing not just why I don't believe that now, but why I think I used to, and why I think other people do. I don't expect I'll convert anyone to atheism, but you never know!

And science does not push theory as fact. That's one of the fundamental misconceptions of science by people who don't really understand it. Maybe I'll address that, too, as I think one of the major things wrong with the world is that most people don't really understand science. Hardly surprising, since it's mostly taught appallingly badly.

Don't worry, I'm not criticising you or anyone for believing what they believe. When I mention ignorance, I mean it not as an insult, but literally -- not knowing the relevant facts. Being ignorant (in that sense) is nothing to be ashamed of. Unless you're deliberately choosing to remain ignorant rather than learn the truth, of course.

Hehe, I'm impatient, and wanted to answer this post so there.

:)

I get so many people attacking my beliefs that it just gets to a point where I see anything as a stab. I do understand science, but I don't accept evolution as a fact.. that's what I meant there.. I do have my reasons.. but I'm absolutely open to learning any views people have on the subject. I just hate it when I get it pushed onto me as the only possible theory.. and that I'm an idiot not to see or believe this. I don't push my religion onto others.. but I will discuss :)

Sorry for being crabby :3

and I know you didn't initially speak of evolution in your post, but it's what comes back to me over and over when I hear the science over supernatural subject. I'm looking forward to your entries on it :) and I'll not get huffy again lol.
