I can't remember if I've ever posted this before. I probably have.

Someone posted to weirdjews asking 1) if animals have souls, and 2) how wanting the body to decompose is compatible with a belief in bodily resurrection.

I think I've posted these theories before, but I can't remember. Oh, well -- if I have, that's what cut tags are for.

If a religious teaching doesn't have SOMETHING useful in it for people who don't believe in it (even if that thing is purely academic interest), it's kind of a useless teaching, isn't it?

Very fascinating post - you are very thoughtful about a subject in which I didn't know you had an interest. Where did you get your information. I am especially wondering about the info on levels of soul, tamei and tahara. You are so precious to me - it is wonderful to know that even after 33 years, I still get to know deeper parts of you.

Now with 50% less vapidity, I hope...

So, as I said before, this is a beautiful explanation. Part of what impressed me is how, for lack of a better word, interdisciplinary it is. Science, religion, and philosophy all intertwined.

Sometimes, I really think knowing you helps keep me from becoming an atheist.

Well, the important question is: does it shed any light or offer any useful insights on how we exist, how animals exist, or how we should consider things?

I hope that, even if one doesn't believe in the existence of a soul, there is stuff in this that is useful in how we think about personality and self.
