2006 was an awful year for the world, and for many of my friends. Yet this wasn't a bad year for me personally ( Read more... )

Oh, this is the best New Year's post I've read tonight. Good for you, and may these resolutions be easy ones to keep. My sweetheart is also working on kicking depression in the ass, and I know what a struggle it can be - but it's so, so worthwhile.

One tip: As someone with chronically dry, itchy and easily irritated skin, I've found that it's just as important to moisturize internally as externally. Keep your fluid levels high (water is best, but even coffee and soda give you a net fluid gain), and don't neglect good fats as part of your dietary changes.

Happy New Year!

I think I can relate to the "I found a drug that works" thing. I'm thrilled beyond words that you've found one. I look forward to reading your "what it's like inside your head" posts.

*hugs offered*

I've finally found an antidepressant that seems to work. And that is the biggest thing that you can possibly imagine.

This is wonderful to hear, and may it continue.

I'm still only really beginning with the looking-for-a-drug-that-works, and trying to make a thousand little lifestyle changes in the meantime. I found this post very encouraging. Thank you.

Good luck on the exercise thing. I've been fighting this battle myself, ever since my metabolism changed in late 20's. Hardest thing about gym is actually getting there. A trick I've found is to have a gym bag always packed. Keeps you from getting side tracked looking for clothes, picking up this, taking care of that, ect. 'Course, you pretty much need to have at least two sets of bags/clothes/stuff so one's always ready.

A second thing I've done is, regardless of gym day or not, I do crunches and sit ups. Not a lot at a time, just 20/20 each, when getting up, another set after shower, another set before getting dressed. Just getting that 60 in every day makes me feel I've accomplished something and am holding back entropy, just that little bit more.

Man, jealous of Italy trip. Want to take wife there one day. If you get the chance, hit Sienna and climb the clock tower there. Another huge set of steps but the view from the top is amazing. Also, standing in a 20 story brick tower, that is swaying in the wind is scary as hell. Cool!

I have a locker at the gym. My gym clothes are there, right now. It's New Year's Day, so the gym isn't open, but I have no excuse -- any time the gym is open, I need to bring nothing -- my stuff is all there.
