Oh yuck. I'm sorry that happened (both the injury to cole_b and the crappy experience for you). I wonder if it really has to do with location as opposed to time. I think playgrounds vary in atmosphere from day to day. I've had some very friendly times in Billerica/Cambridge/Arlington and some less friendly times.

Once at the O'Connors playground I had a complete stranger mom shove her car keys at me, tell me which car was hers & where her first aid kit was. She was dealing with her daughter who had just fallen onto the bottom of the slide, cut her mouth and was bleeding profusely and screaming. I was only too glad to help. I hope others would do the same for me...

Our Arlington playgrounds have self-defense mechanisms against the invading hordes of Bedford-ites! Yar! :)
