Have a definite jerk then! showmeyourjunk August 7 2010, 04:33:57 UTC
"That's what doors are for," Sai said, perched on some sort of high ledge and then jumping down from it. He told himself that most high-school students weren't very bright yet and that this was probably this guy's excuse.

"Ah?!"

Oh geez, someone was up there somewhere! Caesar took a startled hop backwards away from Sai when he landed. "Geez! You shouldn't just jump out at people like that."

He frowned.

"And that was a rhetorical question. I know that's what doors are for."

He blinks and looks at Caesar, and quite seriously, says: "It didn't seem that way. Besides, you shouldn't have your guard down so low; it's dangerous. I was in plain sight."

Oh, right, smiling. Right, so Caesar can have one of Sai's smiles.

Caesar doesn't like the look of that smile.

"I guess I'll just have to train myself to look up," the redhead grumbles. That might pay off in a place like this. He slouches down further in his coat against the winter chill. Why would someone even be up there...

Oh.

It's been some quite time since Tiana walked past the gates of the Institute with her luggage at her side and that small pang of longing for home. She had just got off the bus from the airport, and she was already missing Mama and New Orleans. Standing in the snow and the bristling cold wasn't the most pleasant thing to do.

She quickly walked across the courtyard to the main building, glancing around her. Tucked underneath a deep sheet of white, the entire school seemed completely different from what she remembered. At least the mansion looked vaguely the same, enormous and stately.

Approaching the front doors, she saw a young man muttering to himself. "Go right on in," she replied as she opened a door. "The teachers wouldn't want anyone freezin' out here for long. I reckon that you're new here?"

Caesar had grown up with snow, so the cold wasn't as much a worry as those doors. He glanced back over a shoulder to watch Tiana's progress across the courtyard to the front doors. The redhead shrugged at the invitation.

"I'm still thinking about it," he said.

Tiana herself did not grow up around this kind of weather. The last time it snowed in New Orleans was years ago, and it was more like a combination of rain, sleet, and snow.

She peered at him askance. "If you think too long, your brain will freeze up along with your toes." She motioned him to go through the door. "Come on now. It's plenty warm inside."

"Or turn into a snowman. I know, I know." Caesar gave his coat a tug, knocking some of the snow that had begun to cling to it off. "So you must be a student."

He finished brushing his coat off and walked up to the open door, though not through it just yet. He glanced over at Tiana. "How is it here?"
