[He's honestly surprised to hear someone specifically asking for a moment of his time. But that doesn't mean he can't spare a moment nonetheless.]

Yes.

I'm starting a club called Tactical Combat club. It's for students who have combat powers and/or combat training.

[Sephiroth isn't the easiest person to read, although Ulquiorra's not inviting anyone that he thinks would have no interest in the club.]

I can tell you more about it if you're interested.

[There's a pause at that. He's never been in a club before, but there's no denying that he has both the training and the powers.]

I am.

[Interested, that is.]

In light of the kidnappings, conflicts with the Brotherhood, and the one incident with the school field trip, I thought it would be best if a group of students were better prepared to deal with unusual situations. Combat class is useful, yes, but the club would involve scenarios where students would get the chance to engage in combat in ways that would require them to think.

"I'm starting a Tactical Combat club," said Ulquiorra. Holly J hadn't been one of his first choices for the club, but since she had been amongst the kidnapped students, there was a chance she'd be more interested in supporting it.

"The idea is to make certain the members are prepared to deal with unorthodox situations, and that students who participate in the club think about how to deal with things instead of just reacting."

"I got Ms. Tsunade as the club's original staff sponsor. Ms. Lisa Lisa knows about the club and was willing to offer some help, so I might ask her to be the new staff sponsor. Given that my mentor group went and hunted bears more than once, I don't think the staff pays a lot of attention to what happens as long as someone's signed off as staff supervision and no one's severely injured."

He suspected the staff were kept busy. He wasn't a member of the Curfew Club but he knew it existed and that people frequently broke the curfew rule. They had lesson plans, assignments to grade, and they had the task of keeping students in line outside of classes.

"In order to give the impression that it really is just a club for people interested in tactical combat, I'm going to make the first meeting a paintball game. It's a good way to see what sort of strategic ability people have without anyone getting more than a few bruises."

[Mei Wan, who'd been flipping through a magazine, looked up at the sudden intrusion. Not that she hadn't noticed he'd been coming up to her considering. She had boy-dar among other things thanks to her brothers. One slip up back home and you'd end up the butt of some awful prank after all.]

Ulquiorra, hi. Can't say I was expecting to hear from you anytime soon.

[They weren't supposed to have a sparring session today after all. Maybe he wanted to blow some steam or something. Who knew?]

There something I can do for you?

[She sat down her magazine and scooted over on the couch so he could sit down.]

I'm starting a new club called Tactical Combat club. It's open to students with combat powers and/or combat training. I wanted to know if you wanted to join.

[Mei Wan, in his opinion, was someone who definitely would have the element of surprise in a fight. He'd been mildly shocked to discover how proficient she was at hand to hand combat. He took a seat on the free spot on the couch.]

Tactical Combat Club? Why would I want to join that?

[He knew that she didn't want it broadcast around the Institute about her martial arts training. It just didn't go with her image. Fashionable girls should not be able to beat most people up one handed. It's just now how it was supposed to be.]

Because of the kidnappings, the alien attack during the school field trip, the Brotherhood's invasion...the students at this school need to be prepared for the worst.

And there are other girls who are joining, so you wouldn't be the only one.

[Granted, some of them were tomboys, but not all were.]

[Thankfully she had him in several of her classes, so it wasn't improbable for him to talk to her anyway. She's been sick for a while herself and is only finally getting back up on her feet. It had been nasty and had started well before that virus went around campus. Her fussy father, who apparently wasn't as against her being at the Institute as she'd thought, had insisted she spend some time in a proper hospital because of it.

Now she's back and looking mostly like her normal self, though she's probably lost a little weight.]

Ulquiorra right? You're in a couple of my classes. There something you need? Can't help you with homework though, since I haven't been there either.

That's right. [He's mildly impressed she actually got his name right without him having to remind her. Some people struggled with it.]

I've been getting caught up in my homework, thank you.

[It didn't hurt to be polite, after all. With Rinoa's abilities, she'd be excellent for ranged attacks]

I'm starting a new club called Tactical Combat Club. It's meant for students with combative powers or training. I thought it might be best to have a group of students who know how to respond to unorthodox situations.

That makes one of us at least. I think I've been buried in homework up to my eyeballs. I'll be doing schoolwork forever at this rate.

[Roast them, soak them, dry them off and then leave them with no ground to stand on? She could totally do that... in theory.]

Doesn't sound like something the teachers would be all that thrilled about.

[Really though, Rinoa wasn't a huge advocate for fighting and that last heroic gesture had been pretty nightmare inducing. Still, sometimes you had to do things you didn't like for your own good and all that.]

So how does it work exactly? Just extra training before something bad happens again so we'll be ready?

I skipped anything that we didn't have to hand in or weren't going to be tested on. There's no point to homework like that.

[He sets his hands in his pockets before continuing]

I got Ms.Tsunade to be a staff sponsor, and Ms.Lisa Lisa agreed to help with the club. I'm going to talk to other staff who are...less traditional about it, as well.

More or less, it's extra training, and getting organized so that we prepare for the unexpected. As capable as members of the staff might be...they won't always be able to protect us. Depending on them for that instead of preparing ourselves is foolish.

[Forcing one eye open from his mid-morning nap, Yusuke frowned at the other boy. Quality time just didn't come easy anymore.]

...whatever you're selling, I ain't buying.

And here I thought you might be interested in Tactical Combat Club and being prepared for things like attacks on the school. My mistake.

[Ulquiorra turns to leave, although he's not walking away especially quickly]

Whoa whoa WHOA, wait a moment, there!

[He scrambles to sit up, not about to chase after the guy since it wasn't his style, but not exactly going to let him leave either]

Tactical Combat? That isn't a fancy word for a Chess Club or something, is it?

[Ulquiorra pauses for a moment and glances back]

No. It's a club for students with combat powers and/or combat training that will involve using strategy in combat. The first meeting's going to involve a game of paintball to get a sense of people's planning skills.
