"Come in." Ivan spoke in Russian and his words where sharp. It meant the man was angry. He sat at his desk, watching the door with narrowed eyes. One leg was crossed over the other and he drummed his fingers against his desk.
Toris felt his skin ice over and his stomach jump, but entered without a word, closing and locking the door behind him. His steps were carefully even more silent than usual, making certain not to put any steps out of place when Ivan was displeased.
He wasn't sure what he'd done, but that was hardly the point.
He stood silently before Ivan, deciding against possibly provoking the man further by asking any questions.
Toris stood stiffly at attention, not daring to break eye contact even though he would have preferred to turn and run. But Ivan would catch him and then whatever was coming would be worse. Best to deal with it now.
"I-I'm sorry?"
It was half apology, half question of what he'd done to disappoint Ivan.
