Of all the duties his position entailed, the task of welcoming arriving students to their new home was perhaps his favorite. To see the wonder in their eyes as they took in the many strange and wonderful sights and sounds of the mansion made him feel like he was young again.
Stepping out from the doorway, the tall butler bowed low to the new girl and said, "Hello and welcome to the Xavier Institute. My name is Norman Burg, faithful servant to Master Charles Xavier. Do I have the pleasure of addressing Miss Ammy Terasu?"
Ammy's ears flicked toward the man before her eyes followed, examining him curiously. Norman. Servant. And Xavier was the one who owned all of this. She made the mental links in her brain, and nodded. Yes, that was who she was. She was still a bit nervous, but this wasn't too bad. She gestured to the mansion--did he know where the dorms were?
Most servants were nervous when they first arrived, so Ammy was in good company. Norman nodded, pleased that he was right about the girl's identity. If her continued silence bothered him in any way, he gave no sign of it. Adapting to other modes of communication was often necessary when working in a household like Xavier's.
Noticing her gesture, Norman nodded and said, "Why yes, why don't I show you to your room first. Do you have any bags with you Miss Terasu?"
Ammy smiled, glad her gesture had been understood, and then pointed only to the bag she was carrying around her neck. Most people might have carried it in their hands, but she felt more comfortable this way. If she needed to run off quickly she could transform and not be hindered.
