Quinn had absolutely not been crying, just a little bit, after she and Finn had ended their conversation. She'd wondered where he'd gone when he left William McKinley, and for some reason, knowing that he was here at this freak school too made things simultaneously better and worse. It was better because it meant she could just pick up that part of her life again without interruption, but it was worse because it meant he was a freak, too.

When the knock on her door sounded, she shot straight up, wiped her eyes, and checked in the mirror. There was a faint tinge of redness around her eyes, but nothing too obvious. She swallowed hard, smoothed down her dress, and opened the door.

"Hey."

Something was wrong, that much was obvious, but Finn had learned that it was generally safer not to ask. When a girl was trying to hid something like that, it was either because she didn't want you to ask, or she did want you to ask, and Finn had yet to figure out the signals either way. When he didn't ask, at least they could just assume he was too dumb to pick it up in the first place. That was always easier. But something in him did soften a little.

"Hey," he replied, shifting his feet awkwardly. Was a kiss appropriate here? It didn't seem like the type of moment that warranted a kiss. A hug? He let out a mumbled, "um," before he finally settled on leaning in for a hug, wrapping his arms around her waist and giving her a tiny squeeze.

She didn't want him to ask, so it was good he didn't, because she would have had to lie to him. Quinn was a pretty good liar, but she didn't like lying to Finn, for whatever reason. As it was, she accepted the hug he gave her and put her arms around his shoulders and, after a moment, kissed his cheek.

"So you've been here?" she asked, stepping away from him.

He pulled away and pulled at his shirt nervously. "Yeah," he said, looking down at his shoes and furrowing his brow. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you or anything... I didn't tell anyone. I didn't want people knowing I was a..." There was no way for him to say it politely. Even when he said mutant he couldn't seem to shake that undertone that offended people. He didn't want or mean to offend anyone, but coming from a town where nothing ever happened left him unaware with how to deal with these things.
