She glanced up at the new arrival for a moment... then went back to her own lazy and odd form of self-distraction.

"Pardon me, miss?" the redhead asked, giving Alex a charming smile as they drew closer. "I was wondering if you could lend me a hand, if it isn't too much trouble. You see, I'm new here, and I don't really know my way around yet. Could you please show me how to get to the dorms from here?"

"It'd be too much trouble," and she's back to playing thumb war with herself.

"Is your thumb war really so engrossing?" the newcomer asked, trying to cajole Alex into giving in. "Could you possibly come back to it in a few minutes? Please?"

"Nakuru?" He peered closer. Yep, it was his favorite troll. "Hey good to see you! I thought you got dropped."
He paused for a second, then for some reason added, "From the school I mean."

She looked a little sheepish at Harry's comment, shrugging helplessly. "Yeah, I'm really sorry about that," she said sincerely. "But there was a bit of a family crisis right after Homecoming, and my parents made me go home right away for moral support." Now she looked downright annoyed. "I would have been back here sooner, but my dad keeps his ear to the ground, and he heard about everything that was happening here. You can imagine well he reacted to that, I'm sure." Nakuru sighed, shaking her head. "I'm sorry I couldn't be here to help out when things got crazy,

Having already assumed Nakuru had her reasons for her departure, even though it had stung a little, Harry just shook his head and said, "Things happen, you have to take care of family." He knew better than most how important family was. "Besides, given everything that happened, you can't really blame them for being a bit protective." It seemed not a month had passed here without some major disaster. The last one, though, had been the worst.
Looking down, Harry swallowed as he felt that ache that came whenever his thoughts drifted to Elaine rise up again. "It's okay," he said quietly. "I'm actually glad you weren't there to get hurt. It was...pretty bad."

Her smile turned a little more wry at Harry's comment about family. It was a nice sentiment to be sure, but... "To be honest, I really have no idea what my being there was supposed to accomplish," she said quietly. "That relative of mine, the one who was having the crisis? We don't really get along." Never mind that most of the antagonism was on Nakuru's end, mind you. "And it's not like I can't take care of myself out here..." she added, idly forming a crystal between her fingers as a reminder, leaving it to melt back into nothingness on its own.
"Yeah, but everyone else was fighting for their friends while I was stuck being watched over by Mummy and Daddy," she huffed with frustration. "It isn't fair." She blinked and tilted her head, giving Harry a wary look. "Hey, what's the matter? It's over now, isn't it?"
