Plus side, average young man was the least common thing here, so looking like a model made as much sense as anything. So it didn't really get a second look from Alex as she lounged around the hall with a lollipop sticking out of her lips as she played a thumb war against herself.

She glanced up at the new arrival for a moment... then went back to her own lazy and odd form of self-distraction.

The stranger scanned the hall before settling on Alex. This girl hadn't been at the Institute before, so she'd make a good field test subject to see whether or not the new look was a success.

"Pardon me, miss?" the redhead asked, giving Alex a charming smile as they drew closer. "I was wondering if you could lend me a hand, if it isn't too much trouble. You see, I'm new here, and I don't really know my way around yet. Could you please show me how to get to the dorms from here?"

Alex looked up, examining the boy's face for a moment. The outfit, the charm... reminded her of Manny. Probably the outfit, it seemed like a lot of effort was put into that. Except Manny was... anyway that's a long story, so this guy probably wasn't like Manny just really really really OCD about clothes. Which was weird on guys.

"It'd be too much trouble," and she's back to playing thumb war with herself.

Ouch. Shot down before things even got off the ground. Okay, not that actually getting anywhere romantically with the girl was anything near what the intended goal was, but still.

"Is your thumb war really so engrossing?" the newcomer asked, trying to cajole Alex into giving in. "Could you possibly come back to it in a few minutes? Please?"

Harry walked by the strange new boy, the paused, backtracked, and went back over to "him."

"Nakuru?" He peered closer. Yep, it was his favorite troll. "Hey good to see you! I thought you got dropped."

He paused for a second, then for some reason added, "From the school I mean."

Nakuru smirked a little as Harry walked past her, though her victory was short-lived as he doubled back and took a closer look. She briefly tugged the brim of her hat a little lower over her eyes, but it was too late at that point. "Aww, it's no fun when you figure it out that quickly!" she teased, taking off her cap and letting the long braid she had woven her hair into fall free. Despite being caught, she grinned shamelessly and gave Harry a wink. "So what gave me away?"

She looked a little sheepish at Harry's comment, shrugging helplessly. "Yeah, I'm really sorry about that," she said sincerely. "But there was a bit of a family crisis right after Homecoming, and my parents made me go home right away for moral support." Now she looked downright annoyed. "I would have been back here sooner, but my dad keeps his ear to the ground, and he heard about everything that was happening here. You can imagine well he reacted to that, I'm sure." Nakuru sighed, shaking her head. "I'm sorry I couldn't be here to help out when things got crazy,

Grinning in triumph, Harry replied, "It'll take a lot more than a hat and some boys clothes to make me forget you Nakuru. My arms still hurt from that last shopping adventure of yours." Then his smile became more affectionate as he added, "And besides, I have you to thank for the best thing that's happened to me in years."

Having already assumed Nakuru had her reasons for her departure, even though it had stung a little, Harry just shook his head and said, "Things happen, you have to take care of family." He knew better than most how important family was. "Besides, given everything that happened, you can't really blame them for being a bit protective." It seemed not a month had passed here without some major disaster. The last one, though, had been the worst.

Looking down, Harry swallowed as he felt that ache that came whenever his thoughts drifted to Elaine rise up again. "It's okay," he said quietly. "I'm actually glad you weren't there to get hurt. It was...pretty bad."

"Aw, you're making me blush!" Nakuru giggled in response. "Glad to be of help!" she added with another wink.

Her smile turned a little more wry at Harry's comment about family. It was a nice sentiment to be sure, but... "To be honest, I really have no idea what my being there was supposed to accomplish," she said quietly. "That relative of mine, the one who was having the crisis? We don't really get along." Never mind that most of the antagonism was on Nakuru's end, mind you. "And it's not like I can't take care of myself out here..." she added, idly forming a crystal between her fingers as a reminder, leaving it to melt back into nothingness on its own.

"Yeah, but everyone else was fighting for their friends while I was stuck being watched over by Mummy and Daddy," she huffed with frustration. "It isn't fair." She blinked and tilted her head, giving Harry a wary look. "Hey, what's the matter? It's over now, isn't it?"
