If anyone saw Derrick, they would see someone whose spirits looked a tad uplifted as he walked in a strange hurry out of the boys' dormitory.
The box of clothing and things Derrick had been expecting from his mom finally arrived at school, and when he went to unpack it, he found something he hadn't been expecting. Safely stowed in between the folds of a warmer coat was a box of microwave popcorn. Sometimes a little reminder from home went a long ways. And after the last week, he really needed something familiar.
With a popcorn popping purpose in mind, Derrick entered the nearest kitchen and started looking around for the microwave.
